I hiked and backpacked 1500 miles in the Himalayas with three pairs of shoes. Hiking boots, running shoes, and sandals. I wore each pair on different patches of the trail to experiment with each type of footwear. Can you hike in your running shoes? Here are a few tips to help you decide whether to wear running shoes or hiking boots.

How I’ve supported clients in the outdoors industry over the last few months: Translated: ⛷Descriptions of collapsible cross-country skis, emphasising the benefits of portability, ease of travelling on public transport and overall convenience. ⛷Descriptions of protective equipment designed to protect skiers from collision. Exciting to see the ski industry collaborate with motorcycle brands to use established high-end technology to protect skiers. ⛷A press pack on a variety of cross-country skis. ⛷Marketing materials for touring skis, including how the brand put the skis through their paces to arrive at the best end product after multiple iterations. 🛷Product descriptions for sledges – not the snow sport I expected to encounter, but definitely one that piques my interest! 🧗♀️Product descriptions for climbing rope and climbing shoes. ⛺CSR targets and eco-friendly processes employed by camping brands, including a greener approach to dyeing their fabrics, the use of recycled materials and repair initiatives. Reviewed: 🥾Specs for a lightweight hiking jacket. 🥾Product descriptions for hiking clothing and footwear. 🎒A product description for a new backpack. 🏕Promotional materials for a variety of tents, including blackout ones. ⬆If these sound similar to your business needs, drop me a line to see how I can help. #sportsindustry #outdoorsports 📷 Robson Hatsukami Morgan

In the never-ending debate of trail runners vs hiking boots there is one irrefutable fact that gets missed because we're all usually defending our personal preference in this argument: And that fact is that trail runners have already market corrected one type of boot: the lightweight/soft hiking boot. Sure there are plenty of people who still wear KEEN Targhee's or Merrell Moab's but generally speaking the trail running category has evolved to offer better footwear alternatives, performance wise, than shoes like that. And those lightweight hikers, which are essentially over built trail runners, typically can't be resoled like a more robust full grain leather hiking boot. So in a sense, we could dispense with that part of the category altogether. But a lot of people like them for their Saturday run to the dump (or as some call it the transfer station) and then to hit Costco on the way home; so that's definitely not going to happen any time soon. How about we just start improving on lightweight hikers by making them resoleable and focus on extending their lives? Maybe make them truly distinct in more than just appearance from the trail runners that have usurped their usefulness? Sounds like a good starting point to me. That's one of three topics I pull from the grab bag on today's episode of THE ROCK FIGHT. Available at the link below or wherever you get your pods. #boots #running #podcast #outdoorindustry

Founder and General Manager at Sneaknit | Knitting Innovation for Sustainable Fashion | We work with Fashion and Sportswear partners to create shoes, bags and other products with advanced knitting technologies
The people that know me, also know that I’m a big fan and practitioner of sports. Hiking is one of them and I believe that it is seeing interesting innovations. During spring-summer season, gear to wear can be kept to a minimum. Of course, as temperatures rise, the risk of sweating increases considerably, but with the right gear, hiking in the mountains becomes a truly rewarding experience. In fact, hiking is a sport that requires special attention to the right footwear, to prevent injuries and overheating. Therefore, an hiking boot should provide heat exchange in specific zones without compromising air intake, allowing the heat and steam produced during the efforts to dissipate effectively. It is truly an interesting piece of “technology” in itself and I believe that with our knit uppers it is possible to make further improvements in the field. If you would like to learn more, please feel free to contact me here on LinkedIn. I will be happy to provide you with more information. Variable Responses to Super Shoes Across Speeds and Individuals We frequently write (and talk) about how "shoes are tools." Different types of shoes will work for different people and our goal here is help teach people what may or may not work for them. Racing/Super shoes are a unique type of tool meant for racing and running faster. Not everyone needs these to race, but those seeking higher performances are often drawn to these. The typical super shoe is far different from the racing shoes of the past, which were minimal, low to the ground, as light as possible and often highly flexible. The lower cushioning of these shoes often scared people away. However, super racing shoes have brought a whole of fast highly cushioned racing shoes that have attracted a far greater number of runners. Like all shoes, some may work for people while others may not. The Hoka Rocket X 2 has a unique design with an aggressive spooned plate and a ride that is softer in the heel and firmer in the forefoot. This creates an even lower drop feel that initially one feels like they have to climb out of until the midsole breaks in. The slightly firmer ride makes it better for shorter distances if the average runner is interested, but it is quite stiff and aggressive. This is a shoe that everyone could wear, but may not be appropriate for everyone. Learn more about HOKA running shoes in our full guide here: https://lnkd.in/eTC2-9Bj #hoka #hokafans
