A recent study has highlighted the significant carbon storage potential of planted mangroves. These coastal ecosystems are known for their ability to sequester carbon dioxide, making them a valuable tool in the fight against climate change. The research revealed that mangrove forests can store up to five times more carbon than tropical forests, making them a crucial component of global carbon sequestration efforts. The study's findings emphasize the importance of preserving and expanding mangrove ecosystems. Mangroves provide numerous ecosystem services, including shoreline protection, water filtration, and habitat creation. Their ability to store carbon makes them an invaluable resource for mitigating the effects of climate change. The study's findings underscore the need for conservation and restoration efforts focused on mangrove ecosystems. By protecting and expanding these ecosystems, we can harness their carbon storage potential and support global efforts to combat climate change. . . . #MangrovesForClimate #CarbonSequestration #CoastalEcosystems #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateChangeMitigation #tribunetrends

How long can you hold your breathe for? Pygmy bluetongues lizards can survive their burrows flooding by suspending breathing for as long as 40 minutes. Scientists at Flinders University are researching how burrows and artificial habitat can help species survive extreme weather events. Wetlands are powerful ecosystems that act as natural defences against flooding, improve water quality and provide crucial habitats for biodiversity. They are indispensable to the health of our cities, especially in the face of climate change. As young leaders push for sustainable urban development, protecting and restoring wetlands must be part of the broader strategy. #WorldCitiesDay #WetlandsMatter

🌿 A 2020 study revealed an interesting factor in the fight against climate change: the type of bedrock beneath a forest plays a big role in how much carbon it stores and how quickly it absorbs it. Forests on shale bedrock store 25% more carbon and absorb it 55% faster than those on sandstone. Our Director of Conservation Impact, Luke Iverson, explores what this could mean for Tennessee’s forests and how we can apply these findings to our conservation work. World Environment Day ✓Land restoration ✓Desertification ✓Drought resilience Highlighting a Critical Issue: Land degradation and desertification are major threats, impacting food security, biodiversity, and climate change. Bringing attention to this issue raises awareness and encourages action. This emphasizes the actions that are crucial amidst the intensification of the triple planetary crisis: Climate Change, Nature and Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution and Waste. Shared Responsibility: The theme underscores that restoring our planet’s ecosystems requires collective action and individual responsibility. It encourages everyone to contribute to solutions. #WED #Restoration #Collectiveefforts #Circulareconomy
