This week, Jens K. visited Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) on behalf of Innovatie Attaché Netwerk Brazilië / Netherlands Innovation Attaché Network Brazil . CNPEM is one of only three of the most recent 4th generation synchrotron’s in the world. This electron accelerator emits a light of a broad part of the spectrum, which can filtered and used to analyze the atomic structure of all kinds of substances, like a gigantic microscope. It is a unique installation that demonstrates Brazil’s ambition to innovate. Synchrotron light can also be used in research topics relevant for the Netherlands. The synchrotron can, for example, visualize active sites of enzymes in great detail. This technique is applied to enzymes isolated from capivaras and manatees (sea cows), animals native from Brazil, that can break down plant material very well. When we understand those enzymes well, we can use them to produce more efficient biofuels. Another example is research on energy materials. Electrodes from electrolyzers are studied on nanoscale, so the efficiency to produce green hydrogen can be improved. Get in contact with the ia network if you are interested in those technologies. We can help you set up research collaborations with Brazil. Research Talks is CI’s upstream research initiative to generate and polish research ideas. At the Research Talks platform everyone is welcome to present research ideas yet to be matured to get expert insights to polish proposed research ideas. CAREC Program
The #CARECInstitute’s inaugural online Research Talk Series commenced on October 15, 2024, with a focus on the implications of water scarcity for hydrogen production in Central Asia. This initiative aligns with the Institute’s strategic commitment to advancing downstream research activities, including policy dialogues and the CAREC Chai initiative at the conclusion of studies. However, it also underscores the importance of fostering upstream discussions, where research ideas are refined before moving to the implementation phase. Traditionally, the Institute has sought to strengthen both internal collaboration and external engagement during the early stages of research development, such as the drafting of concept notes and proposals. “The Research Talk Series provides an invaluable platform for researchers to exchange ideas and receive diverse perspectives from their peers. This intellectual exchange is crucial for refining and shaping research proposals before advancing to the next stage,” said Dr. Ghulam Samad, Chief of the Research Division at the CAREC Institute.

🔊 📽 RELiEF's first video is online! 🔋 While #Lithium is abundantly present in secondary resources, until now, little attention has been paid to exploiting these resources. Apart from Li recovery from EOL (End Of Life) Li batteries, the many other potential #secondaryresources have been ignored, due to a lack of available process technology making their exploitation feasible. RELiEF aims to push forward the necessary advancements to open up these resources for Europe’s Li supply safety and independence. Learn about the innovate #RELiEF approach to reduce #lithium waste by more than 70% through the use of previously unused secondary lithium sources which allows the project to play a crucial role in avoiding future supply chain disruption and close the loop for a circular economy. Chemists from the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (University of Amsterdam) (HIMS) are participating in the largest Dutch research project on green hydrogen production! 🎉 The NWO (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) has announced the launch of this research project, named HyPRO. The urgency of the climate and energy transition is the driving force behind HyPRO. Green hydrogen is seen as a key solution for making heavy industry more sustainable and for storing renewable electricity generated by offshore wind. UvA researcher Amanda Garcia represents HIMS in HyPRO consortium: 'Not only do we bring our cutting-edge knowledge to the table, but we also provide an invaluable opportunity for our PhD students and postdocs to collaborate, learn, and innovate alongside some of the leading experts in the field. This will be key to driving forward the sustainable energy solutions of the future.' The HyPRO consortium includes 17 Dutch knowledge institutions and 41 companies, among them 17 Dutch startups. It covers the entire production chain, from high-tech equipment developers to the future hydrogen producers of the Netherlands. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gb3DTMcS

International conference by leaders of national laboratories of G20 countries on clean energy technology hosted by AIST
[Introduction of program of the #RD20TokyoSymposium 2024] Prof. Dr. Yoshiaki Kawajiri of #NagoyaUniversity conducted international collaborative research with #KanazawaUniversity, #MitsubishiChemical, and #UniversityofCalifornia , Berkeley as a #NEDO project from 2021 to 2024. He will share the results of this research in a presentation entitled "Development of energy-efficient CO2 recovery process using novel zeolite adsorbent" at the #RD20TokyoSymposium. Professor Kawajiri's international collaborative research team worked to overcome the technical challenge of capturing CO2 emitted from thermal power plants and other sources at low cost, and developed a high-performance zeolite adsorbent and a CO2 adsorption and desorption process that can utilize this performance. The research is expected to lead to the realization of low-cost carbon recycling. Please come and listen. https://lnkd.in/gyAxE79h #RD202024 #AIST

We love to sit down and talk science. Today, we get to highlight Jesus Adrian Diaz Real and the team at CIDETEQ, SC: SRINIVAS GODAVARTHI, goldie oza, Jessica Cárdenas Martínez, Arlete Vazquez, Darshana Rajput and Ariadna García, who are researching clean hydrogen production from sunlight. We were fortunate enough to interview an incredibly busy Dr. Diaz-Real and discuss his research in Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production without the need for traditional platinum group elements, his perspective on the industry's future, and his advice for the next generation. Three things beyond his research application we found inspiring: His love for his students and the work he is doing His passion to make a difference in the world His humble easy, going nature After hearing about his work and how G2V assisted him, we knew that a world of great minds like his, given the right instruments to expand the scientific body, would guarantee a promising tomorrow. Here are a few words of wisdom he has to pass along to the next generation of scientists: “You have to be fascinated by what you do. Without that, you won’t be able to stay right at the edge of knowledge. Generating new knowledge costs a lot, but simply being fascinated by the idea that you can do it helps make everything worth it.” -Dr. Jesus Adrian Diaz Real If you are interested in hydrogen production, photochemistry, or a greener tomorrow, please check out his article! https://lnkd.in/gwi3D8Kr #Chemistry #Hydrogen #Innovation #Science
