We are excited to announce that Mr. Rune Nordgaard, Managing Director from FREYR Battery will be speaking at the #JWE2023, taking place in Bellesalle Shibuya Garden Tokyo, Japan on 17-18 October 2023. FREYR’s business model is partner driven in the content that they are licensing in battery cell technology for mass production in large scale using renewable energy. Their Customer Qualification Plant open in March this year in Norway. This will be followed by the Gigafactory (Giga Arctic) with nameplate capacity of 29GWh at the same location. At the same time FREYR will expand production with a similar Giga Amerika factory in the USA. The cells from the first Giga factories will be LFP cells for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and built on the 24M battery cell technology. FREYR was established in 2018 to utilize the surplus renewable energy available in Norway to produce battery cells. They established a partnership with 24M Technologies in 2020 to use their semi-solid battery cell technology. https://lnkd.in/ehR9Ryf4 Spain Awards €150 Million to 12 New Renewable Hydrogen Projects in Second H2 Pioneers Call Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has announced the allocation of €150 million to twelve new projects under the second call of the H2 Pioneers initiative. This funding, sourced from NextGenEU funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), will support innovative initiatives in renewable hydrogen, following the success of the first edition which also granted €150 million to 19 projects.

Scaling up osmotic energy 🌊 ⚡ French company Sweetch Energy has secured €25 million to accelerate the commercial development of an osmotic energy system. Generated by the difference in salinity when freshwater and seawater sources meet, osmotic energy could be huge. Estimates suggest almost 30,000 TWh of "natural osmotic energy" are released by deltas and estuaries around the world. The company's INOD solution uses “nano-scale membranes specifically designed for harnessing osmotic energy”. Launched in 2015, to date Sweetch Energy has secured €40 million. This also includes a €2.5 million grant from the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) to carry out further research. Can it be scaled up? A partnership is in place with energy company CNR (Compagnie Nationale du Rhône) to develop OsmoRhône 1 - this will certainly be seen as the proving ground for large-scale osmotic power.
