We have set a new benchmark in nutrition transparency. In 2022, Unilever became the first global food company to publicly disclose the performance of our product portfolio against 6 externally endorsed Nutrient Profiling Models (NPMs). Now we are the first to do so for three consecutive years. There is not one measure of “healthiness” as NPMs show widely different outcomes based on the underlying methodology. Furthermore, there is currently no globally aligned approach to setting a harmonised “healthiness” score for food and beverage products. We are continuously improving the nutritional quality of our products in support of the vital shift the world needs to make to more nutritious and sustainable diets, ensuring a better food system for people and planet. Furthermore, we are calling on the industry and stakeholders to work together to create an industry-wide approach for measuring “healthiness” of portfolios that every company in the food industry can use. A Complete Guide to 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐬 - [PDF Guide] ➡ 𝐂𝐥𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐃𝐅>> https://lnkd.in/dbjn2muw A #Nutritional premix is a customized blend wherein nutrient components are precision blended for use in food & #beverage, animal feed, healthcare, and personal care applications to enrich, fortify, and enhance the nutritional value of products. Nutrient premixes and food systems blend several ingredients to make products with specific nutritional or physical characteristics. Premixes are a convenient way for manufacturers to add a nutrient package to their products to appeal to specific target consumers. Premixing multiple #nutrient ingredients into a single ingredient streamlines production and eliminates potential batching or incorporation errors that could result in a nutrient deficit, regulatory issues, and product recalls. In recent years, wellness has become a global movement, as consumers are keen on living healthy lives for as long as possible—particularly as average life spans continue to rise. Over the last decade, there have been drastic changes in diets and lifestyles due to industrialization, urbanization, economic development, and globalization, significantly impacting the health and nutritional status of populations, particularly in developing countries. The growth of the nutritional premixes is driven by the growing #health & wellness trends, the changing food landscape, the increasing demand for fortified food products, the convenience of nutritional premixes, and the rising demand for compound #animalfeed. 📢 Alert. New report launched by the Access to Nutrition Initiative 💡 Read why sector alignment and reporting on the use of Nutrient Profiling Models (NPM) to assess food and beverage product healthiness is a game changer! This information applies not only to you as a consumer but also to other stakeholders active in the nutrition sector e.g., 💲 Shareholders who encourage companies to advance their nutrition practices, policies and procedures, so that we have healthier food options on our shelves! 🏭 Food and beverage companies to stimulate sector alignment on thresholds/benchmarks used to ensure products are created in their healthiest format (formulation and reformulation efforts) and standardized transparent reporting. This creates a level playing field. 🗒 3. Governments & regulatory bodies for policy, can use the results as a reference to determine which models are robust and which for example have leniency toward certain product categories. NPMs help advise on front of pack label choice and marketing restrictions of unhealthy varieties at national level. #Nutrientprofilingmodels #sectoralignment #privatesector #foodandbeverage #accesstonutrition #standardisedreporting #producthealthiness #institutionalinvestors
🥗NEW REPORT: Did you know that there are up to 400 different models to measure the healthiness of food? While some of these Nutrient Profiling Models (NPMs) are created by companies, approximately 80 have been developed by governmental and intergovernmental organizations and are used in nutrition-related policies and regulations. Due to the lack of standardized nutrition performance measurement tools, it is difficult to monitor the progress of the industry's transition to more nutritious product portfolios. To address this, ATNI (Access to Nutrition Initiative) conducted research in 2023 and 2024 to create alignment on the use of models for reporting on portfolio healthiness. Out of nearly 400 NPMs, three models were found to be the most appropriate for reporting on product portfolio healthiness: Health Star Rating (HSR), Nutri-Score, and the UK NPM. A high level of agreement was observed between these three models when assessing 17 different food product categories. Components for proposed Reporting Guidelines were also identified. To improve corporate reporting for nutrition, ATNI and its investor partners call on food and beverage companies to measure their product portfolios against at least one of the three NPMs (HSR, Nutri-Score, UK NPM) and utilize the proposed Reporting Guidelines to better gauge and compare the healthiness of their products and the sales of ‘healthier’ vs. ‘less healthy’ products. As more and more consumers make calculated choices toward sustainability and ethical considerations, plant-based milk is becoming a firm favourite. In Singapore for instance, a significant 62% of consumers who have tried plant-based milk beverages consume it regularly, with 20% willing to switch their default dairy option to a plant-based alternative. Right at the forefront of plant-based nutrition are faba beans. They not only deliver protein and fibre benefits, and also support long-lasting satiety and muscle health. Additionally, Palatinose™, has a low-glycemic profile, and can further enhance the nutritional profile of plant-based milks by having a lower impact on blood sugar levels. Check out my article to find out more on this power blend which reimagines sustainability, nutrition, and innovation for the new generation of dairy alternative consumers. #BENEO #nutrition #fibre #sugarmanagement
