We are pleased to announce our upcoming project: the Sauk Crossing Expansion! This 60,000 sq. ft. addition, located just off Highway 15 near the CentraCare Plaza in St. Cloud, MN, will soon house a brand-new clinic and provider offices. With this expansion, CentraCare will have the space they need to better serve our community's health care needs. We would like to recognize IMEG, Innovative Structural Solutions, P.A., Westwood Professional Services, and RJM Construction in their effort to support the CentraCare mission. We can't wait to see this project come to life! DID YOU HEAR? Austin is building a New $305 million State Hospital due to Texas revamping it's psychiatric system By Stephen Simpson, The Texas Tribune "New $305 million Austin State Hospital unveiled as Texas revamps psychiatric system" was first published by The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization that informs Texans — and engages with them — about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues. The Austin State Hospital, a new 240-bed facility, has been constructed on the existing 80-acre campus approximately three miles north of downtown Austin. The historic Old Main Building, which opened in 1861 and is now designated a historic landmark, will continue to serve as office space when the hospital begins operations later this summer. The modern new building resembles a luxurious apartment complex, featuring 11 secure courtyards and screened porches. It offers single-person patient rooms, each with its own bathroom, and numerous recreational amenities, including a gym, salon, barber shop, chapel, general store, and more. "This facility is designed to simulate real-life situations, allowing individuals to progress through their recovery journey in an environment dedicated to their healing," said Austin State Hospital Superintendent Stacey Thompson. The BWBR Omaha team has worked with many Critical Access Hospitals looking for smaller-scale expansions and renovations, rather than completely new facilities. In examining these projects, a powerful theme has emerged — that these “small” projects can actually have an outsize impact. Check out a few examples: https://loom.ly/fNspfdE

Really interesting article about new trends in medical space regarding their design/build. ⚕ 🏥 💉 💊 My major takeaways are: -Design/Build is the preferred method: It is important to design built-in contingencies, as priorities may change. The conversations between engineers, architects and owners should start early on in the process of building a new facility". You should include the GC too!!!! -Think about the staff: "Designers should consider the impact a building can have on the staff, he said, including whether there is nice lighting, comfortable chairs and good food options." -Think about the patients and who they are: "Geriatric patients shouldn't have to walk a significant distance from a doctor’s office to a lab, just to return for the results" -Consider where your patients are: "More established providers are cutting down patients’ drive times by bringing care closer to households in the suburbs, with hopes of providing more preventive care that will keep patients out of the hospital." -Consider who you're working with: "Architects and designers have to “reach across the aisle” to work with the community and create spaces that will foster human connection and create better outcomes"

Houston's medical office market is booming, but older buildings may struggle to meet the needs of modern healthcare providers. According to Bisnow, there's a significant demand for state-of-the-art facilities that can accommodate new technologies, flexible layouts, and patient-focused amenities. However, outdated properties are being left behind as healthcare organizations prioritize newer spaces that can better support evolving medical practices. https://lnkd.in/gZDtafWb

Next Week, at the European Healthcare Design Conference, Bob Wills will be joined by Mark Barry from Architype to present, “Passivhaus community healthcare: Lifetime operational savings for no additional cost”. The talk will focus on the Cavell Community Health and Wellbeing Hub, a facility which sets a bold new vision for the delivery of community health services, integrating clinical and social care models to address the broad influences of health and wellbeing. Following on from Medical Architecture’s work with NHS England to envisage the future of integrated community healthcare facilities, the building is one of six pilot schemes for its Cavell Centre community hub programme. Developed in collaboration between Medical Architecture and Architype, the building adopts a pioneering approach to sustainable design, as the only pilot project to be designed to Passivhaus standards. Critically, this can be achieved for no additional cost, whilst enabling around a two-thirds reduction in operational energy and operational carbon compared to a typical new build facility. This equates to energy savings of around £291,000 a year. SALUS Global Knowledge Exchange | #architecture #healthcaredesign #EHD24
