At Kuusakoski, we're committed to driving change through the United Nations's Agenda 2030, with a special focus on Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. ♻️ For us, this means embracing sustainability at every stage of a product’s life cycle—from raw materials to production. We’re proud to contribute to the circular economy, ensuring products and materials have longer, more sustainable life cycles. Our efforts have already led to a recycling rate of 94.6%, and we’re striving to push this even higher, aiming for a 97% metal recovery rate through improved recycling methods and green investments. In 2023, the materials we recycled helped our customers avoid 1.39 million tonnes of emissions—equivalent to the annual emissions of 560,000 passenger cars! 🚗 For 2024, we’ve set clear, tangible targets to help us get closer to our goal of achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2035: ⚡ Increase energy efficiency by +0.5% compared to 2023. 🌱 Reduce CO2 emissions by -2% per tonne compared to 2023. These targets, along with other sustainability goals, are tracked and reported annually in our Sustainability Report. According to an Accenture Last Mile Sustainability Report, last mile delivery accounts for 53% of the total cost of shipping and 41% of total supply chain costs. Our new Sustainability Report out with new steps towards a low-carbon future🌍This time aligned with CSRD and ESRS.

🌏 This week we would like to highlight IKEA as a brilliant example of a company that is actively pushing sustainability efforts through their innovative campaigns and strategy. IKEA aims to become a circular and climate-positive business by 2030, a goal supported by the steps they've integrated into their business. They’ve started this journey by implementing sustainable products and materials, renewable energy, carbon reduction targets, and offering sustainable food options.  ♻ 🌱 Key insights from their 2023 report showed significant progress. A reduction in the total IKEA climate footprint was estimated to be 24.1 million tonnes of CO2 down 12% from 2022 and 22% compared to the baseline year 2016. 🌍 European Sustainability Week 2024: Together for a more sustainable future 🌱 📅 Day 4: Recycling Onboard Waste in EWR? Yes, we can! ♻️✈️ As one of the first non-US airlines, we have been granted permission to recycle onboard waste, such as glass, aluminum, and PET bottles, after landing in Newark (#EWR\). This success, achieved after a successful trial, marks a significant milestone in making waste management on transatlantic flights more sustainable.
