Today, I participated in a community cleanup program where the local councilor, some municipal workers and volunteers like myself were clearing sediment from the road drainages in King Williams Town. Just an hour of your time can make a difference, being a active member of society is important. #communityservice #volunteerism #environment #cleanup #stormwatermanagement #pollutionprevention

We believe in empowering #volunteerism. We do so with local volunteers, corporate volunteers, #AEISECvolunteers #Workawayvolunteers and many more. We also believe in ecosystem restoration, specifically degraded forest ecosystems by planting tree by tree, an acre by acre. #VolunteeringinSriLanka #Rainforestvolunteers #Rainforestprotectors #Worawayvolunteers #universityexchangeprogramme #Erasmus

At Englobe UK we give all employees 1 Pro-bono days leave a year to volunteer for a good cause that is close to their heart. As part of this initiative our Managing Director, Julia, volunteered her time to support Newbury & District Beekeepers last month. Julia writes ‘We had a marque at the Newbury Agricultural Show, and spent the weekend educating the public about bees, beekeeping, and planting flowers for pollinators. We got the children at the show to plant crocus bulbs that will flower early in Feb/March when early emerging pollinators really need the pollen and nectar. We also raised awareness and educated our stand visitors on a very real threat of a non-native invasive species, the Asian Hornet, that has decimated bee populations in mainland Europe. It has had its first sightings on the UK in the last 3 years along the South coast which is very concerning. So far, all the Asian Hornet nests in the UK have been found and destroyed which will ensure our native bees’ survival but reporting of any further sightings is vital! To report a sighting this is what you need to do. Take a photo and download the “Asian Hornet Watch” app and report it. It is almost twice the size of a wasp, has a dark body and yellow legs!’ If you’d like to find out more about how you can help with the ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ click on the link below. https://lnkd.in/eN8q-DFm #Volunteering #ProBonoDay #EnglobeUK #Englobe #GreatPlaceToWork #ProudOfOurWork #Remediation #Remediationcontractor #SoilTreatmentFacilities #BrownFieldContracting #EnablingWorks #IntegratedEnvironmentalServices #InfrastructureProjects #CivilEngineering #SocialValue

Conservation efforts in Kenya are not only about preserving wildlife but also about fostering inclusive growth and empowerment within local communities. Contrary to this claims, wildlife conservancies are not solely benefiting land-rich older men at the expense of women, youth, and the landless poor. Let's explore how conservancies are actively working to address gender inequality and promote the well-being of all community members. 1.Gender Equality Initiatives: Many wildlife conservancies, including those represented by the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA), are implementing initiatives to promote gender equality. These initiatives aim to increase women's participation in decision-making processes, improve access to resources such as land and education, and empower women economically through various income-generating activities. 2.Youth Empowerment Programs: Recognizing the importance of engaging youth in conservation efforts, conservancies are implementing programs aimed at empowering young people. These initiatives provide opportunities for education, skill development, and leadership training, equipping youth with the tools they need to actively participate in and benefit from conservancy activities. 3.Community Benefit Sharing: Wildlife conservancies prioritize community benefit sharing, ensuring that revenues generated from tourism and other activities are reinvested back into the community. This includes funding education and healthcare initiatives, infrastructure development, and providing support for small-scale businesses, all of which contribute to the socio-economic development of the community as a whole. 4. Collaborative Governance: Conservancies operate under a model of collaborative governance, where decisions are made through inclusive and participatory processes involving all community members. This ensures that the voices of women, youth, and the landless poor are heard and taken into account in decision-making processes, leading to more equitable outcomes. In conclusion, wildlife conservancies in Kenya are actively working to address the challenges of inequality and empower all members of the community. Through gender equality initiatives, youth empowerment programs, community benefit sharing, collaborative governance, and environmental education, conservancies are driving inclusive growth and fostering a brighter future for all. It's important to recognize and support these efforts as we strive for a more equitable and sustainable future for Kenya's wildlife and people alike. I have spoken about this discrepancy which has not gone down well, but now I see that it is much worse than I had thought - according to Joseoh Ogutu, conservancies are not just benefiting mostly men (97% of land in conservancies is owned by men) , he warns that they are undermining women and youth. That is not sustainable. I applaud Joseph Ogutu, a top statistician, for fearlessly translating what the data means into language that we can understand, however uncomfortable it is. It saddens me that this is the situation, and it excites me that donors can now use such data to correct the wrongs and redirect their support to achieve equity and inclusion. Community conservation is not effective if only one gender is benefiting, We have so much work to do
Kenya’s wildlife conservancies make old men rich, women and youth poorer

Our approach to community engagement and giving back includes various strategies. For example: 1. **Community Outreach Programs:** We support local initiatives and events to foster community spirit and cohesion. 2.Environmental Stewardship:** We engage in activities that promote sustainability and environmental conservation within the community. 3.Economic Development:** We support local businesses by sourcing materials and services locally whenever possible and creating job opportunities through our projects. This multifaceted approach helps us make a positive impact and build strong relationships with the communities we serve.
