It was wonderful to hear Alex Zoghlin and Lauri Reishus kick off the Elevate + TravelConnect event today organized by ATPCO and ARC. Smith vs Smith or rather Smith with Smith! is a great story of how two great organizations (IBM and American Airlines) got together over a chance encounter in the air leading to digitization of the travel industry. As Alex mentioned, we have had 60 years of progress and today, dynamic offers have gone up to 50 percent. Lauri talked to about how agency sales channels are generating 95B dollars in air sales and that 1 out of every 5 transactions last year was on NDC! That transformation is expected to accelerate even further in the coming years. The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) failure in the UK, which has disrupted up to 1 million travellers, is now apparently being blamed on a badly filed travel plan input by a French airline. IF this turns out to be true it really does highlight the need for testing to not only provide confidence that a system works as intended, but also for it to robustly test the error handling capabilities by creating and running test cases covering all likely and as many unlikely fail scenarios as possible. The big question is "How many is enough and which ones do we do with the time/resource we have available?"
