Dad & Lead motivator - Facilitator - Multi-Domain Ops & Intel Planning - US Marine Vet - Cross-Functional Collaborator - Adult & Experiential Learning
This Salience podcast is a great find and reflects insightful practice that I’m glad I experienced with Frontline Mind while I was at Marine Corps University in 2019. Re-Opened my mind to breath work, focus, and reinvigorated my study of human cognition - both enhancements and distractions. I’d say that with the 2019 workshop, their structured reflections after, and my own lifelong study I hit the ground running when I showed up to Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group - MCTOG in 2019 for resharpening myself & as an instructor for both Ops and Intel tactics instructors. I resonated with the Adult Learning methodologies we fostered through reflection and collaboration with our high performing students and fellow warfighters. I know that I grew just as much if not more than what we fostered through the environment and events we pulled off. Our shift from the technical to the adaptive/constructive focus on decision making, appreciation of the adversary within the context of the environment, clear and concise communication, collaboration, teamwork, and team cognition was hard and necessary….and not always appreciated at the time. I’m hearing that the pendulum has swung back under the current guard but finding a sweet spot between the two ways can get us to the same ends Marine Corps lethality. As I get ready for another life transition those lessons are on my mind and the lessons on reflection, feedback and feed forward hit home. ‼️The episode’s parting thoughts and some minor contributions in my part. 🧠 👁️ Attention equals life. Pay Attention to your life …and practice your gratitude daily. My evenings with my wife & boys thinking and sharing our days are key to my own journey. I recommend recent podcasts by Andrew Huberman with the HubermanLab and the book Stolen Focus also recommended by Scott H. Stalker 🌏 To me, The Heroes journey the episode mentioned is the Adult Learning we emphasized at MCTOG. Notice opportunities thru active reading AND reflective writing or journaling to put it in the context of your life and the current growth. This has helped my awareness and self awareness. 📔 Journaling and pattern recognition. Similar in own life. DaVinci. Everything all together helped him be the renaissance man artist and scientist. 💥They didn’t emphasize it in the episode but the theme was apparent to me: Talk it out with other folks on their own journeys. Like minded gains momentum and opposing viewpoints force one to think critically and grow. Talk books: fiction and non-fiction. Talk friction. Debate both sides. Talk current events. Then get back to that journal. Listening (and some talking) is core to the human experience, active synthesis, and I consider it a group reflection one of my favorite things.
Joe Byerly shares a short story about moving past “stuck” and reflects on his use of journaling to gain perspective and as a platform from which to change course.
