We certified The Ivey's Hotel and they are great example 'how not to do dog friendly'. They barely scraped a C rank, scoring just 11 points out of 52. This is because they price gouge dog owners with unnecessarily steep fees while providing no services, amenities, or facilities for dogs in return, or even allowing them access to the wider hotel, and to make things worse they have a small weight limit meaning only very small dogs are welcome. We use hotels like this as an example of how not all dog friendly hotels are created equally, and how the words 'dog friendly' mean nothing unless they have been properly certified and ranked by an independent third party. A textbook example of a hotel that can be described as dog tolerant at best. You folks need to do better than this Kyle DeHont. https://lnkd.in/dt5i4qQi

We certified the Catalonia Eixample 1864 Hotel, and it scored a failing F rank, making it a hotel to avoid for dog owners visiting Barcelona. Dogs are not allowed in the common areas, bars, and restaurants; they must stay in your room, meaning you cannot expect to enjoy this hotel with your dog. They fail to provide basic amenities like beds, food, and water bowls, and they have an absurd 20 Kg (40 pounds) weight limit that excludes our Labrador. They will also charge you a canine tax of €22 ($25) per night while offering nothing in return; this hotel should be ashamed to call itself dog-friendly. Deberían sentir vergüenza; un grupo tan importante como Catalonia Hotels & Resorts necesita hacerlo mejor Daniel Cortina Ullate y Felix Navas Marques. https://lnkd.in/dxn9V-pn

We certified the Amerikalinjen Hotel in Oslo, Norway, as dog-friendly. Despite being considered one of the best hotels in the city, they scored a disappointing D rank. This is mainly due to the lack of basic amenities like beds or food and water bowls or any dog-friendly services or facilities. But you can go into their bar and restaurant with your dog, and they do not have any weight limits; we like their canine inclusivity. They have a reasonable canine tax of just 500 NOK / 41 EUR / $50 UDF per stay compared to other hotels, but the lack of basic amenities and services makes it a canine tax. Perhaps something to think about Ørjan Lundmark? https://lnkd.in/dnBEN6pQ

Barking Up the Right Tree: Smart Hotels Target Dog-Loving Travelers The 5-star hotel experience for dog owners has transformed over recent years, becoming more welcoming and inclusive. Yet, not every hotel has embraced this trend fully. For many of us, our dogs are family. We don’t just want them to travel with us—we expect them to be welcomed. Unfortunately, some hotels still fall short in accommodating guests with dogs. Have you ever had to pay extra for a room designated as the 'pet-friendly room'? Often, it's a room in a less desirable part of the property. And what do you get for that €25 per night surcharge? Perhaps a small sticker on the door to alert housekeeping about your pet. Does that sound familiar? Luckily, more luxury hotels are catching on. Today, the best properties offer a genuine welcome—beds, treats, toys—often without an extra charge. These hotels recognize the value of making the stay enjoyable for both us and our beloved pets. Dog owners often share their travel experiences with their community. Positive word-of-mouth can make all the difference, and we tend to return to places that make our dogs feel at home. To the hotels that understand this: thank you. And for those yet to embrace the trend, there's still time to catch up. I’d love to hear your stories: What's your experience traveling with your dog? Let's share the best spots that get it right. P.S. The adorable dog in the photo is my dog Frieda, taken at H-Hotels.com, Leipzig.
