Juneteenth + Fair Housing = reasons to look back, look forward! Ten months after freedom came to enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865 — the occasion we remember as Juneteenth — Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first federal law to call for racial equity in housing. Even at the dawn of emancipation, many already knew: freedom had to include fair housing. Our offices are closed in observance. But even as we look back, we look onward to securing fair housing for all. It’s our commitment not only to freedom, but to liberation. #Juneteenth #FairHousing #civilrightsact1866 #liberation

Why Do We Need to Redefine Civil Society?❓❓❓ Redefining civil society helps in identifying the effective roles of civil society organizations in promoting democracy and protecting human rights. It also contributes to adapting policies and initiatives to better align with the actual needs of the community. Furthermore, this process enhances the role of youth in civil society, empowering them to lead, and opens the door to developing innovative solutions that address contemporary challenges. #Redefining_civil_society #Red_Sea_State

Today we recognize the freedom that Juneteenth symbolizes and the opportunity to reflect on the history of emancipation — and how we can continue to fight for civil rights and social justice throughout the rest of the year, too. Urbanization, racialization, and marginalization function in synchronization where urbanized spaces — in colonized places — are racialized spaces for separating races. Take for instance urban and regional planning’s concentric zone model, the “school to prison pipeline,” or being “red-zoned.” In essence, Despite Indigenous lands and resources providing the supply for the demand and the means of production in urbanized, racialized, colonized spaces for separating races. And not to diminish any sort of marginalization, but other forms of being marginalized was based on the color of your skin which allowed you to work, vote, buy houses, get loans, and form unions. Which includes having “reserved” seats at the back of the bus, yet, Original Nations have been refused to board the van of progress of their own technologies until very recently. Consequently, Original Nations have been dealt a really bad hand to play with in relation advancing, promoting, and marketing anything really. “Othering” — has been practiced for more than three millennials — which makes that prayer “as I walk through the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil” seems like a prayer for “Othering.” JMT.

" Separate but Equal" is the next step and at that point, I want to see how lawmakers spin the need for such a horrific divide. What they possibly could say to justify reversing decades of civil rights action. What we as the people must do moving forward is remind the world that democracy thrives on diversity and when the civil liberties of one minority class are taken, it's a gateway to attack the civil liberties of all minority classes. https://lnkd.in/gjHPW53m

The issues we are facing as a country, an organization and a movement are not new, but the methods, foes and tactics are changing. To advance towards justice and equity, we must change as well. We at The National Urban League are taking on a new phase of civil rights advocacy with our D3 Campaign. D3 consists of three guiding action calls: Defend Democracy, Demand Diversity and Defeat Poverty. Find out more information: https://buff.ly/3O1We85

April is #NationalFairHousingMonth, which commemorates the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark 1968 civil rights law that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. At WayForward Resources, we acknowledge there is more work to do. Ongoing structural disparities caused by racism in our country and community create barriers to well-being and progress, experiences of racial trauma, and decreased access to housing.

CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION: ALMOST NO ONE IS INFERIOR IN GEORGIA ANYMORE. DEMOCRACY ALWAYS SECURES RIGHTS. https://lnkd.in/gk6u-aFs Georgia was established in 1732, with settlement in Savannah in 1733, and was the last of the thirteen colonies to be founded. It has a rich history of the civil rights movement and democracy, led by students, soldiers, and religious leaders. https://lnkd.in/gbN2rZ7F Georgia's demographics are 50.1% Caucasian Americans from Eastern Europe and the Baltic nations. 32.6% African American, 4.4% Asian American, 0.3% American indigenous-Alaskans, 0.1% African Indigenous-Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders, and 10.5%. https://lnkd.in/gdnCFuhY Georgia State University's student population is a vibrant mix of cultures and backgrounds. It is 39% African American, 21.4% Caucasian American, 13.9% Asian, 12.5% Latino-American, 4.99% Two or More Races, and 0.0931% American Indigenous Islanders. https://lnkd.in/gbN2rZ7F Georgia offers a diverse range of activities, a growing economy, a diverse community and a relatively low cost of living, making it a great place to call home. However, challenges include traffic congestion, limited healthcare access, and race relations. A republican administration will send it far into segregation, which is growing by the minute. https://lnkd.in/g89Sw9b8 Democracy is not built on a day, and neither is peaceful living. Vote for peace, not hate and more segregation. The world will thank you!
