Through support from the Victoria State Government (Victorian Government) #TogetherMoreActive program, we have been working with the Koorie Heritage Trust, Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) and multiple universities to develop a program that tackles racism in Victorian sport. We have developed an anonymous survey to help understand how #racism impacts community #sport and what can be done to help address it. Anyone over the age of 18 who is or has been involved in playing or the delivery of community sport may complete the survey! You may be an athlete, participant, parent of a child athlete, coach, volunteer, administrator, committee member or spectator. Whether you have witnessed an incident or been the victim of an incident of racism, your insights will assist sporting organisations to develop solutions to respond to racism within community sport. Help us inform this important work and project today 👉 https://bit.ly/3vVYFU6

Founder/CEO | Nyanam Widows Rising; PhD SD4H Fellow | UCSF/Maseno University. I desire to see Africa where widows thrive.
We are thrilled to partner with SFF to advance the human, social, health and economic rights of widows in Kenya. Access and ownership of property, especially land, is one of the most violated economic rights of widows. As we start 2024, Nyanam widows will be - critically analyzing their experiences with land since widowhood - increasing their awareness on their land rights and process for land ownership - designing and implementing social action projects to improve their land ownership At societal level, much needs to change to advance women’s land rights. The practice that women have no voice on land matters should stop The practice that land is registered only in the names of male family members should stop The practice of denying childless widows land should stop
Do you know what makes the first Wednesday of 2024 a thousand times better?! 😜 Welcoming excellent partners like Nyanam Widows Rising to our family. Please show them some love! 💚 Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation through holistic programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and economic empowerment, justice and human rights, and youth education. Why do we love them? 🤓 Nyanam centers all of its programs on the widows’ voices and needs. Their paralegal training is integral to empowering widows to understand their rights and advocate for themselves in the justice system. Our first study nearly 4 years ago found high rates of abuse of children in community sport. 82% of respondents had experienced at least one type of child abuse in sport and one third had experienced all types (psychological, physical, sexual). Now we are seeking to understand how to support volunteers in responding to abuse in sport. There are so many policies and initiatives being rapidly developed in this space, but there's no evidence on what is actually needed or what might work. If you volunteer in Australian community sport, please take a few mins and complete this survey: https://lnkd.in/g3bE9S2n If you work with volunteers in a sport organisation, we would appreciate your support in reaching volunteers. We have an email template we can provide if that's preferred. This research is done with and for sports and it's simply not possible without the community's support!

NEW #TuesdayTips! Yesterday here in the USA it was Dr.Martin Luther King Day, which is a big volunteer "Day of Service" with thousands of events across the country. These tips are good for evaluating any kind of group volunteer service day, wherever you are in the world. After any big volunteer event you should do an evaluation of the activity with feedback from all participants, with a "Plus/Delta Debrief". "Plus/Delta" evaluation and/or survey questions should be specific to the objectives and goals of the event, and my tips include a few basic ideas to get you started, and more resource links. I also highlight the wonderful work on the topic of "MLK Days of Service" from Breauna Dorelus, MPA, with links in the video description to her Engage article and webinar available on her own website, Connecting the Cause. Links to my Priceless Advice and TuesdayTips conversation with Breauna are at the end of the video, so check those out, too! #LeadersOfVolunteers #MLKDayOfService #DEIAJ #CommunityEngagement #SocialJustice

Many #children have participated or observed the obscene racist violence breaking out across the country over the last week. Come September, these children and young people will be coming together with other children in classrooms across the country. While #schools may create #spaces for children of different backgrounds to sit together, talk and explore diversity in its richness, they will also be supporting the many children who will have been very frightened and confused by what they have seen (even those who have participated in it). While we hope that we may have seen the end of some shocking and shameful scenes in this country, the sentiments behind these event will not be extinguished overnight (indeed, there's a long history of this kind of behaviour in the UK - scenes of the football hooliganism some of us grew up with in the '80s come to mind) and it is for all of us, not just #teachers, to create spaces in which fear can be expressed and acknowledged, and support be offered. This short article for the FE sector identifies some of the challenges teachers will face.
Three prompts to kickstart FE’s response to the far right riots
