Howden Private Wealth has been a steadfast supporter of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) over the years. This year, we are proud to be one of the companies supporting MSF Day. While we are fortunate to live in a well-established city far from the reach of disasters, many developing cities continue to grapple with extreme weather events, malnutrition, poor healthcare, and the devastating impacts of war. In these challenging environments, MSF has been providing vital medical evacuation services, building mobile clinics, and offering both medical and psychological support. Last Friday, we had the opportunity to attend one of MSF's workshops. A Hong Kong-based volunteers shared his insights into their work in Africa, this helped us gain a deeper understanding of MSF's crucial mission. We also participated in an African drum music class and an art jamming session, where we created our own masks. These activities allowed us to immerse ourselves in local cultures, a crucial key aspect of MSF's holistic approach. In Howden, we believe that insurance can be a force for good, providing stable funding and innovative solutions to address the world's most pressing challenges. We are honoured to be part of this journey with MSF, and we remain committed to supporting their life-saving work. Feel free to show your support to them: https://msfday.msf.hk/ #CSR #insuranceforgood #HowdenPrivateWealth

We're thrilled to share a significant milestone in regional healthcare collaboration! 🌟 On April 24th, the Health Ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania took a decisive step forward by signing a comprehensive memorandum for #CrisisCooperation. This historic document marks the first of its kind in the health sector among the three Baltic nations, setting a new standard for collective action in the face of health emergencies. 📜 The memorandum is more than just a symbol of unity; it's a practical framework designed to enhance our capabilities to respond to health crises swiftly and effectively. By agreeing to exchange crucial crisis management information, we're building a foundation of knowledge that can be leveraged in times of need. Moreover, the agreement emphasizes the importance of learning from one another's experiences. This collaborative approach will enable us to refine our strategies and improve our crisis response mechanisms. The planned joint exercises, expert exchanges, and seminars are not just exercises in cooperation but vital steps in ensuring that we are well-prepared for any health-related contingencies. 🛠️ The memorandum also outlines preparations for providing mutual aid in real emergencies. In practical terms, this could mean expedited sharing of vaccines and essential medications during a pandemic, cross-border assistance from ambulance services and medical teams, offering psychological crisis support, and more effective distribution of international humanitarian aid. 🚑 The focus of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania is not only on preventing potential health crises and preparing for them but also on enhancing our collective response and recovery capabilities. One of the key objectives of the memorandum is to develop joint crisis management systems that will serve us well into the future. 🌱 It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Baltic nations have come together for health services. The existing cooperation agreement between Estonia and Latvia, initiated in 2010 and renewed in 2022, has proven to be beneficial for providing ambulance services in border areas. This latest agreement builds on the success of past collaborations, reinforcing our commitment to the health and safety of our populations. 🤗Let's celebrate this #BalticUnity and look forward to a future where our combined efforts lead to a stronger, healthier region. Here's to a new era of #HealthcareCooperation, #CrisisPreparedness, and #ResilienceBuilding. Together, we are indeed #StrongerTogether.

After enduring violence for ten months, Sudan's healthcare system is on the verge of collapse. The prolonged conflict has led to the forced displacement of over 7.4 million people, with approximately 65% of the population unable to access healthcare. This is primarily due to the fact that between 70% to 80% of hospitals in conflict-affected areas are no longer operational. Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) and Project HOPE, with support from key partners, are taking action. SAPA, backed by Project HOPE, Airlink, Inc., and other key partners, including MAP International, Flexport, Astral Aviation Ltd, and Qatar Airways Cargo, successfully delivered $13 million worth of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, hygiene items, and therapeutic food to Sudan. Yasir Elamin, SAPA President, states, "The scale of this tragedy outpaces our resources. It's a plea for humanity." Project HOPE's President & CEO, Rabih Torbay, emphasizes the critical need for international support and a peace deal in Sudan. The health system faces constant attacks, with at least 251 from January to December 2023, and health workers have gone unpaid for over eight months. We call on the international community to act decisively, renew support for Sudan, and prevent history from repeating itself. Read more and take action: https://lnkd.in/gTTRwgdB

Unimed is proud to continuously support our partnership with the esteemed global health NGO, International Health Partners (IHP). Through this strategic alliance, we've been able to extend a lifeline to Lebanon, delivering essential medical supplies to address pressing healthcare disparities. With a contribution of critical supplies, including bag valve masks, syringes, pulse oximeters, blood collection tubes, and mechanical pipettes, Unimed facilitated an astounding 275,428 treatments across Lebanon. Among the impactful stories, we highlight the case of a courageous 12-year-old boy residing in the Elbuss Refugee Camp. His ongoing battle with chronic asthma, exacerbated by harsh environmental conditions, led to a critical health emergency. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, IHP and its partners swiftly mobilised, with Unimed's contributions playing a pivotal role in providing essential medical assistance. Lily Jones-Herbst, Corporate Partnerships Manager at International Health Partners, adds: “Without donations like this, many more people would suffer due to a lack of access to healthcare – something at IHP we’re working hard to eradicate. Through partnerships like this one, we can make a real difference in the lives of people facing difficult circumstances when it comes to their health.” Explore the full story and learn more about our partnership with International Health Partners here: https://lnkd.in/eWF-6MNa #unimed #internationalhealthpartners #lebanon #humanitariancrisis #healthcareforall

We at the WHOCC Imperial College London remain steadfast in supporting the global health workforce's collective efforts to provide adequate and safe healthcare to all people, including to vulnerable populations in conflict zones and those fleeing war and persecution. In the midst of the highest number of violent conflicts since World War II (UN, 26/01/23), our colleagues are there on the ground providing healthcare services to those in-need populations. Targeting health facilities is an egregious act, taking a significant toll on healthcare workers already working under stressful conditions with limited resources. As stipulated by International Humanitarian Law, healthcare infrastructure and healthcare workers must be safeguarded. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is deeply alarmed that our office and pharmacy in Buthidaung, Rakhine state, Myanmar, burnt down on 15 April. The burning down of MSF’s office and pharmacy is just the latest blow to what is a decimation of available healthcare options for people in Rakhine state and their continued denial from access to humanitarian assistance. No staff were injured, but all medical stock and office equipment were destroyed. This includes lifesaving drugs such as antibiotics, instrumental in the treatment of diseases like pneumonia, primarily affecting children under five years old. 🔗 Full statement here: https://lnkd.in/g4QevvgM

Personal Post - It’s International #LongCovidAwarenessDay First and foremost, it’s a public health issue, but the impact on the workforce is also huge, with 40% of people with Long Covid being unable to work full time. The EU estimates that the available workforce in Europe was reduced by up to 1.1 million people in 2022. COVID hasn't gone away - and the risk is cumulative - you have a 1 in 10 chance of developing Long Covid with each infection. - if you are infected 3 times there's nearly a 40% chance you will still have symptoms 3 months later. I volunteer with a Long Covid charity here in Scotland. All the volunteers, trustees, members and supporters of Long Covid Scotland (and other LC groups) did an amazing job on Wednesday at the Scottish parliament: raising awareness outside, then briefing MSPs ahead of a debate in the chamber, giving evidence to the inquiry, and being interviewed for STV. I wasn't able to make it in person, but was there in spirit as I got to design the banners, badges and briefings. Here in Scotland at least 3.5% of Scots - over 187,000 people, have long covid. 40% of them are unable to work, 10,000 of them are kids, none are getting the support they need - the Scottish Government have allocated just £10 million pounds over four years - so about £12.88 per person. But it’s a global issue – in the US in 2022 it was estimated over 6% of adults had Long Covid. Huge shout out to Freja Lundberg from Long Covid Scotland whose full interview was shown on STV news - it’s worth a watch to see the personal impact Long Covid has, and why patients and carers worldwide need much more recognition and support. https://lnkd.in/dg3iYJWq #LongCovid #Covid19 #LongCovidAwareness #LongCovidAwarenessDay
