Rx grant partner and colleagues with In Our Own Voice: National Black Women's Reproductive Justice Agenda recently released their "Lives and Voices of Black Families in 2024" report, after surveying thousands of Black adults about their views on reproductive justice, abortion, and much more. There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives. Audre Lorde said those words and SisterSong highlights them in their education on reproductive justice. Reproductive justice affects us all, so this #womenshistorymonth I am posting the ABCs of women's health and highlighting the importance of intersectionality in our understanding of "women's issues." Women are people, and women's issues are societal issues. We must confront the constant attack on women's health, as well as the historical and present-day underfunding and undervaluing of "women's issues" as a collective across genders, sexual orientations, classes, races, abilities, and more. Because until we are all free none of us will truly be free. Today the letter is R: SisterSong defines Reproductive Justice as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. To achieve this we must: ↳Analyze power systems. ↳Address intersecting oppressions ↳Center the most marginalized. ↳Join together across issues and identities. As Loretta J Ross said, “A person can’t fight for their human rights if they don’t know they have them. They got to know they have options beyond the deadly and dangerous ones.” Reproductive justice means being free to make informed choices about our bodies without discrimination, coercion, or violence. It's a fundamental aspect of our right to life, health, privacy, and education.  Woodhull continues the fight for reproductive justice, a fundamental human right.
