“We need these changes now; we are out of time to reoptimize our forces to meet the strategic challenges in a time of great power competition.”
“Develop People, Generate Readiness, Project Power, Develop Capabilities”
PAUSE…
Let’s apply these same quotes/catgories to Operational Medicine.
1. Our Operational Planners need to be immersed into the world of “Big Data”. We have to maximize our decision advantage not just for warfare but in healthcare as well! With the creation of AFMED, now is the time to take a hard look at our development of our people.
2. Generating Readiness rather it is Medically Ready Force or a Ready Medical Force foundational starts with data!! Data is the new Class 0 commodity, let’s treat it as such!
3. Project Power: Where is the Medical aspect in the “Units of Action”? As we project power, we have to anticipate, predict, and prescribe the needed medical force, capabilities, capacities, in order to prevent the loss of life at scale!
4. Develop Capabilities. At the heart of this is information dominance to enhance Air Force’s focus on command and control. Medical has a seat at the table as this absolutely encapsulates Role1-4 capabilities and capacities, patient movement, integrated biosurvelliance, and real-time enterprise wide Information on blood and bed status.
AF Medicine needs to quickly pivot from intraoperability to interoperability at scale.

In my humble opinion this should be our primary focus for AFMED in support of the Air Force new operating model.
