What will 2024 hold for the voluntary and community sector in Yorkshire? We asked this question of 3 incredible thought leaders yesterday as part of our programme of support to organisations that make grants in Yorkshire. Knowing the wider social, economic and political landscape has never been more important for funders when grants are often the lifeline keeping essential charitable organisations going. Together our speakers - Sarah Vibert, CEO of NCVO, Jack Larkham from Pro Bono Economics and Nicky Ruddick from Community First Yorkshire made the collective case that in Yorkshire, where there is a greater number of smaller charities than the national average, 2024 is going to be another challenging year and particularly for grassroots charities. Challenges include recruiting volunteers and trustees, getting the right support and access to bank accounts. All issues that funders consider as part of their due diligence of any grant application. The 40+ funders at the event then had space to consider how their funder practice might need to adapt to ensure that these issues don't get in the way of getting essential funding to local organisations.
