𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀? Why food could be a key ingredient for engaging communities in your work. Want to make social and environmental action more accessible to all? Food is a great place to start. Whether you’re hosting a community event, running a focus group, or rallying volunteers – make sure they’ll be fed. Why? 🍰 Food is nourishing, inviting, and motivates people to attend or be involved in something. You know, like the big meeting that is made easier because lunch will be provided? 🍝 Centering around mealtimes makes participation easier, by fitting into people's schedules without requiring extra time they might feel they don't have. In other words: give them dinner, don’t make them squeeze it in before. 🍔 It makes us happy! Whether it contributes to the overall aim or not, sharing food is something to enjoy and a way to bond with each other. And when we’re happy and connected to our community, we’re much more likely to take action to look after it. In short: food matters. It’s a powerful tool for bringing together communities often excluded from environmental action. As well as all the social benefits, food also has the potential to increase sustainability across community events by leading with plant based or locally produced options. So, hungry for creating change? Don’t forget to think about food!

Explore the innovative solutions and collaborative efforts that have driven our success this year—be part of the conversation on sustainable food support 🔗 bit.ly/3YC5yFB Since 2023, we’ve recognised that ensuring no one in Norfolk goes hungry was just the beginning. Our 25 food hubs have successfully provided essential groceries and support, but as we predicted, food is more than sustenance—it's a gateway to addressing broader issues like loneliness, education, and mental health. As a result, we have developed our proposition to build better connections between people and food. Our mission, Building healthier communities through food, reflects this direction. We aim to reconnect people with food from farm to fork while addressing gaps in skills, knowledge and confidence to create healthier, more connected communities. We need your support as we grow our programme to help fund community projects creating local food ecosystems for social benefit.

Sharing Sustainable lifestyle tips with ✳️businesses who invest in their employees - via my Lunch and Learn ✳️individuals needing support in being more eco-friendly - via my Sustainability program ✳️Public speaker
What drives me? Obviously a fear for what my children's future holds, what they'll have to face - and the fall out from how we're abusing this planet. But also I really struggle with injustice. Learning about vivisection in my teens, hearing about defenseless animals being caged and used for testing broke my heart, so I gave up eating meat there and then and started paying much closer attention to the ethics of the brands I bought. And now, the injustice of hearing report after report of how we're poisoning this planet we rely on for everything. Where will it stop? When we've poisoned every drop of water and every square cm of land with forever chemicals, pesticides, sewage, oil spills, microplastics? What then? What will we drink and where will we grow our food? And it's not just humans that depend on clean water and land to survive. Every living creature depends on a healthy habitat in which to live and fresh water and food to nourish them. This is their home too. Isn't it time we all cleaned up our act? I think the small amount of effort required from us as individuals is worth it. Maybe start with using the Yuka app to check the ingredients of your beauty products and cleaning products. —————————————————— Hi, I'm Lyn your friendly Environ-mentor. US (IL): “We want to integrate solutions with the community, ensuring they have a stake in the outcome” "We're not just creating vertical farms; we're creating wellness and work opportunities. Our projects aren't solely focused on generating ROI from farmers' markets. Instead, we aim to improve overall wellness and provide meaningful work," explains Mary Scala, co-founder of Freight to Plate, a startup based in Chicago, dedicated to empowering communities through sustainable food production as a form of wellness opportunities. Her sister and co-founder Jacqueline Scala's involvement in real estate comes in quite handy when partnering with organizations seeking to boost their ESG portfolio and impact in the community. One of their standout programs involves working with the Stein Learning Gardens in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago. Mary and Jacqueline facilitated funds from ADM Cares to launch a container farm project. "This collaboration of public and private funds is something many haven't been able to achieve," Mary adds, indicating the significant moves Freight to Plate is making. "When we get a new client, we start with a discovery phase, understanding the community's needs, whether it's an underserved neighborhood or a high-end wellness center. We customize the farming system to benefit that specific customer, ensuring it aligns with their desired experience outcome and needs," says Jacqueline Scala, emphasizing the importance of alignment of strategic integration. https://lnkd.in/eV7jy9Jg

Events can be incredibly wasteful, but they don’t have to be. Here’s why it’s essential to rethink how we plan and execute events: 1️⃣ Environmental footprint. Traditional event practices often result in significant waste and resource depletion. As highlighted by Jordan Kaye in Forbes, "Events have had a history of excess and environmental neglect." By shifting towards sustainable practices, we can significantly reduce our environmental footprint. 2️⃣ Community impact. Events are a great way to bring people together, but they can also be a chance to give back. By integrating local charities and community groups into our events, we can make sure that our gatherings leave a positive mark on the places where they happen. 3️⃣ Future focused. Embracing sustainability isn’t just about following trends—it’s about preparing for a future where environmental and social considerations are crucial. Kaye notes that "Sustainability...is no longer a mere trend. It is an imperative, a cultural reset steered by growing environmental concerns and societal demands." We’re passionate about turning these ideas into reality. We’re all about finding practical ways to make events better for everyone involved—without losing sight of what makes them special. So, next time you’re planning or attending an event, think about how it can be a force for good. Small changes can add up to big impacts. Let’s make every event a step towards a better future. 💪

Love the work Event Cycle is doing to cut down on event waste and give back to communities wherever possible! What small changes are you and your clients making to have an impact? I’ll go first… 1. Food Waste: I'm always mindful of the amount of food left after each meal. I make it a point to ask the venue what they do with the leftovers. It's great to hear when they partner with local shelters or food banks to donate it, or when the staff can enjoy it at the end of the night. 2. Flowers: Event flowers are often used for such a short time, but they can still bring joy for days after. I typically give them to the banquet or housekeeping staff, and it's always well-received. 3. Throw Blankets: For outdoor evening events, we sometimes provide throw blankets for guests. If delegates don’t take them home, I’ve coordinated with the hotel to launder them and donate to local seniors’ homes, shelters, or even the SPCA. 4. Gifts: How often do we end up with swag or merchandise we don’t really need? Instead, why not do a community activity? One year, I organized a give-back event with the Boys and Girls Club, where we built and accessorized 24 bikes for kids, complete with backpacks, water bottles, helmets, and bells. The team absolutely loved it, and many still talk about it as a conference highlight! What are you doing to make a difference? Share your ideas below! 👇🏻

Utilitarian Co-Founder & CEO Circular Economy: Business | Government and You Enabling sustainable behaviour change with integrated education, engagement, product stewardship and rewards
Our community continues to grow! A big thank you to David Paynter and the team at Gold Coast Tool Library - now featured on U by Utilitarian. “The greenest product is the one you didn’t buy, it is the one you borrowed from your local Library of Things”. – David Paynter. By downloading U by Utilitarian and following The Gold Coast Tool Library - you will be able to learn more about their great work - we hope we can play a small part in supporting their great work, by helping to raise awareness and see more Gold Coast residents join up! Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a Circular Economy, and The Australian Library of Things Network has around 30 in operation around the country, led by NFP groups - in addition to this a growing number of Council operated book libraries including a Library of Things section. We would love to showcase all Libraries of Things on here - it is free, and find the link to join in the comments. Why is this important, and why was it important for U by Utilitarian to welcome such organisations onto the platform? Connecting people, products and places - a network to promote sustainable use of products, we can start by raising awareness within the community of these incredible organisations - they have a social and environmental impact, bringing community together. LoTs also often facilitate events like Repair Cafes, educational workshops and swap meets. As part of our ongoing corporate pilots, we can also support/track volunteerism of any partners employees - importantly, The Gold Coast Tool Library is eager for more volunteers to help - what better way than to promote this on a platform, enable your staff to learn a different aspect of Sustainability, and have the ability to capture the social giving as part of this. We are on a mission to provide a fully integrated network - and I look forward to the day, not far away now - where U by Utilitarian will enable an everyday Australian, who may purchase a tool from a big shed store - to register it, care for it, and then donate it to a Library of Things having discovered it on our platform, and for us to track its' complete journey over the course of it's useful life. The manufacturer of this item - operating on U by Utilitarian as part of their sustainability strategy - retaining full visibility, providing support - and tracking the extended life of the product, reporting on the proportional reduction on emissions, and meeting it's EPR obligations - arguably this is impossible to achieve without the invaluable support of community leaders like David, and the invaluable work of social enterprise. #circulareconomy #socialimpact #libraryofthings #repair City of Gold Coast Planet Ark

Never been to Earth Day for Event People? Well, we are a friendly bunch - maybe a bit goofy - but we do take event sustainability very seriously....just a few things we cover this year; 🌍 how a European consulate in Toronto embraced sustainable events 🍾 a winery reduced the weight of bottles by 50% & dropped TOTAL emissions by 16% 🥫 what an environmental charity did to eliminate single use items 🎩 when a high end gala goes vegetarian - what did the attendees think??!! These event hosts share their trials, tribulations and successes with you, how they did it and how you can be part of the solution. We can't wait to see you there!

Founding CEO of Green Heffa Farms (Certified B Corp) | Award-Winning Fundraiser Turned Herb Farmer & Blender | Visionary Environmentalist & Diversity Advocate | Global Speaker & Educator
When I made the leap from high net worth fundraising to starting Green Heffa Farms, I assumed my friends and family would naturally be my biggest supporters. They’d show up, share posts, and buy products without hesitation. But the reality was different. I soon found that invitations to gatherings dried up, phone calls became less frequent, and people who I thought would cheer me on were surprisingly silent. My products weren't even in their tea cabinets. I admit, I questioned if I made the right decision. I could always return to environmental fundraising full time but that also meant returning to another possibly toxic environment which I felt was riskier for my wellbeing. Yet, as Green Heffa Farms' brand grew, something unexpected happened: my truest support started coming from strangers—people I’d never met who believed in my vision, shared my values, and wanted to see an environmentally-minded business that believes in equitable treatment of humans succeed. We began to be invited into different rooms and having bigger conversations. I began to realize that true support isn’t about proximity. It’s about alignment. It’s about showing up and being there even when it’s not convenient or socially expected. When you’re building something new, something that others don’t fully understand, respect, or even deem “risky,” it’s often strangers who become your advocates and turn into your strongest community. And it would be remiss not to mention that many of the less enlightened still think of farmers as uneducated, primitive labor and aren't aware of how magnificent it is for a Black woman to build a vertically scaled wellness brand without any investment dollars because she wants her community to have access to top quality herbs grown with their wellbeing in mind. I didn't know it when I started but my "grow slow so I don't owe" approach was a gift to my future self. And now that my hotline is blinging once again, I am very selective about which calls I answer. So if you’re out here, building a dream, and wondering why those closest to you are the quietest, know this: sometimes your people aren’t the ones you grew up with or shared countless moments with—they’re the ones you haven’t met yet. There are good people out here. I know because many of them who were once strangers are now our customers and partners. Keep building. Keep believing. Because when your name starts coming up in the right rooms, and your work speaks for itself, you’ll discover that support, though unexpected, is still very real. On another note: Aren't we farmer-fashionable in our Dovetail Workwear? It’s quality you can depend one.
