Harnessing the Power of Curves: Neurodesign at Rallim Secondary School Rallim Pre I Prep I Secondary prioritizes student well-being and academic success. At Xperiencemakers we supported this ethos by incorporating evidence-based neurodesign principles into their new Secondary School expansion. Curved forms are a prime example. Research suggests they create a more calming and inviting atmosphere, fostering a sense of safety and security in students. This is particularly important in creative spaces like the Music Pods and Vlog & Podcast rooms (pictured). By incorporating these elements, we've designed a space that not only feels safe and inviting, but also encourages exploration and self-expression. Curved furniture creates a more open and fluid environment, removing the rigidity of straight lines and sharp edges. This can help students feel more relaxed and comfortable to take risks, experiment with ideas, and let their creativity flow freely. These thoughtfully designed spaces foster a sense of ease and informality, making it easier for students to loosen up, collaborate with peers, and develop their creative voices. Stay tuned for more insights into the neurodesign principles at Rallim Secondary School! #interiordesign #education #neurodesign #wellbeing #school #creativity #rallimsecondary For Project Enquiries Contact us: Website: www.xperiencemakers.co.za Email: enquiries@xperiencemakers.co.za Photos by Sally Wellbeloved Photography

Exciting Development for NYC FC Since its inception in 2015, New York City FC has experienced the challenges of not having a permanent home, often alternating between Yankee Stadium and various other locations across the five boroughs. In 2027, that's all set to change with the construction of its very own stadium next to Citi Field in Willets Point. This isn't just about soccer; it's a monumental project that integrates sports with urban development. Here’s what’s coming: 🏟️ A state-of-the-art stadium 🏡 The largest all-affordable housing initiative in the area 🏫 A new public school 🏨 A modern hotel Soccer, or football as it's known to the rest of the world, is the most popular sport globally, with over 4 billion enthusiasts. Despite soccer’s vast American fan base, the U.S. leagues are often seen as underdogs compared to European giants in England, Spain, Germany and Italy. With these developments, is the U.S. on the brink of changing this narrative? https://loom.ly/XjB4J88 #architecture #stadiumdesign #urbanplanning #soccer Sterling Equities Related Companies HOK

⛹♂️Yay for play-day! I spent nearly two decades in the world of outdoor playground design and I can't emphasise enough how important logistics is in the process of creating much-loved community spaces. ❄ From standing in the freezing snow, on-site with our contractors, awaiting delivery of 'ugly' or out-of-gauge freight of a bespoke tree-house hand-crafted in Germany to ensure we met our project deadline; to negotiating with a driver to wait with a 6m tube slide until the delivery of a crane. This all highlights how something initially created as concepts on paper can so easily fall apart if logistics isn't considered and managed as part of the bigger picture. 💡 It was a hard lesson to learn but now working on the other side of the process I see how hard it can be to ensure the right solution is in place for our customers. I urge anyone who has a complex project or product to think about logistics from the start and if you need some advice we have a lovely team here who can give you a helping hand. 🤝 Association of Play Industries (API) #playground #logistics #outofgaugelogistics #supplychain #projectlogistics

Urban sports districts add to the vibrancy of cities by generating activity and revenue on more than just game days. At HOK, we are proud to have played a pivotal role in planning and designing St. Louis CITY SC's new stadium and adjacent training facility. The award-winning CITYPARK Stadium creates a connected, vibrant district in downtown St. Louis. What can other cities learn from this urban design? HOK co-CEO Eli Hoisington recently shared 4 lessons from the project with the St. Louis Business Journal. These strategies shaped the design of the stadium district and helped energize the surrounding neighborhood. Here's how: 1. Community Connections: The stadium’s open design maximizes engagement with the city, offering views of iconic landmarks and ensuring all sides are active and accessible. 2. Found Opportunities: Located on a 25-acre site that once consisted of highway interchanges, the $667-million soccer complex has helped spur $1.4 billion in new neighborhood development. 3. Civic Space: Thoughtfully designed public plazas and monuments, like Damon Davis’s “Pillars of the Valley,” honor the neighborhood's history and foster community. 4. Home-Field Advantage: A sunken pitch and steep seating bowl create an energetic atmosphere, with no seat more than 120 feet from the action. Since we are in the mood of building stadiums and it seems it will happen no matter what we say, I am always going to advocate for resources on Chicago's far south side (Believe me, I am not advocating for stadiums when we have so many other priorities). There has never been a stadium built south of 95th Street unless the historians tell me otherwise. Let's spread the wealth of the Illinois Sports Facility Authority's (ISFA) bonds that are backed by the 2% hotel tax to Chicago's far south side. Wrigleyville is on Chicago's far north side and the rest of the stadiums are north of 35th Street (soon only north of 18th Street). Would be nice if the hotel tax could be used for Chicago State University Multi-Purpose Football Stadium. A decent example would be the New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and Queens Development Group (QDG) project, which consist of a 25,000 seat stadium with 2,500 affordable housing units, 250-room hotel, and 1-acre park space. Now, there is a casino so I am not advocating for a casino on campus, but I like the model. This project is expected to generate $6.1 billion in economic impact, 1,550 permanent jobs, 14,000 construction jobs, and proposes 100% affordable housing. Jerry Reinsdorf has stadiums that has received hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars as well as the Ricketts family, and quite honestly, these sports teams' records have been abysmal and yet they continue to get rich. These two families seem to have complete control over the ISFA bonds. Is there equity in stadium development and ownership? Is there equity in ISFA? Or is equity only in temporary small subcontracting construction positions, small business vendors, and hourly wages that can be discontinued at any moment.

Talk about some real Monday Morning Quarterbacking. Where is the leadership? How does this happen? You can’t simply “Bear Down,” to execute on a major operation. You need a plan. And the public should play a larger role in approving the same. #PaveTheWayToVictory
After purchasing Arlington Race Track last year for $197.2 million, demolishing it, unveiling plans from MANICA Architecture to build a $2 billion stadium and entertainment district in its place, and then getting bogged down in contentious litigation over a long-term property tax deal for the site between the Bears, Cook County, and three neighboring school districts, the Chicago Bears now say they have plans to demolish Soldier Field instead (which is currently property tax exempt, since it is owned by the Chicago Park District) and contribute $2 billion towards building a new, domed stadium in its place – if they can work out a deal with the city for public financing. "A domed stadium built in the city would likely cost no less than $2.5 billion to $3 billion."

Luton Town Football Club’s Power Court plans successfully validated Following Luton Town Football Club’s recent announcement that a detailed planning application for Power Court had been submitted to Luton Borough Council, the process has now been formally and successfully validated. This means all of the documents submitted by the Club and 2020 DEVELOPMENTS (LUTON) LIMITED are now in the public domain and available to peruse on the council’s website. Luton Town Chief Executive, Gary Sweet, said of this week's validation of the plans: "We wish to place on record our gratitude to the Council’s officers and planning team for their promptness in validating these extensive set of plans." On 13 September 2024, Luton Town Football Club’s development company, 2020 Developments, formally submitted a detailed application for a new 25,000-capacity stadium at its Power Court site in the heart of Luton town centre. The submission of detailed plans to Luton Borough Council marked a defining milestone in the delivery of a sustainable long-term home for Luton Town Football Club, the increasing ambitions the Club has for its football team, and as a vital catalyst in marking a regenerative era for the town. The hybrid application provided full detail on the stadium and included an updated outline submission for the hotel and music venue. This pack, which includes a core Design and Access Statement supported by a variety of technical reports, was delivered to the Council’s Planning Office on 13th September and has now been formally validated by officers. Foster + Partners to design Old Trafford Stadium District World-renowned global architecture studio, Foster + Partners, is set to be appointed by Manchester United to develop a masterplan for the Old Trafford Stadium District, covering the Club-owned land that surrounds the existing stadium. The focus will be to design a world-class football destination and home for Manchester United fans, coupled with a wider masterplan comprising mixed-use developments which will benefit the local community, attract new residents, increase job provision, and make it a vibrant destination for visitors from Manchester, the UK and all around the world. The exercise will include substantial engagement with fans, community members, local authorities and the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, whose feedback and insights will be incorporated into the masterplan design. The stadium itself will not form part of this exercise – its design will begin once the club has decided on the development options. However, a world-class stadium will ultimately sit at the heart of this ambitious new masterplan, acting as a catalyst for wider regeneration. Foster + Partners will also provide best-in-class recommendations on how the Stadium District masterplan can best complement and align with the existing Trafford Wharfside masterplan and the objectives of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority for the city region. Collette Roche, Manchester United Chief Operating Officer, said: "We have a clear vision to transform and revitalise the club-owned land around Old Trafford and we know that Foster + Partners is the best partner to help us develop the plans. This is an area of Greater Manchester ready for major new investment so that it can thrive once more, and we are determined to help deliver those outcomes. "We want this area to become a true destination, that not only provides an unbeatable matchday experience for our fans, but also supports other forms of entertainment, leisure, business and residential facilities surrounding a world-class stadium. Lord Foster has unrivalled experience in delivering projects of this scale and ambition." Yesterday, BLDD had the opportunity to sit down with students from the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois over pizza (because let's face it, pizza makes everything better) and share our vision for PK-12 design. 💡 As a Central Illinois firm, we're proud to show that innovative, student-centric design isn't just for big cities. We believe that every community deserves schools that nurture young minds and foster a love of learning. PK-12 design is about more than just architecture – it's about understanding how students grow, learn, and thrive. It's about creating spaces that adapt to different learning styles, that promote collaboration and creativity, and that make every child feel seen and supported. At BLDD, we're driven by the belief that we can make a difference, one school at a time. 🏫 We're not just building buildings – we're building brighter futures for the students of today and the leaders of tomorrow. #BLDDArchitects #SchoolDesign #PreK12

Nothing against Related Midwest. I think they are a jewel for Chicago. These are beautiful renderings. I have to say it must be nice to have more than $1 billion in city and state subsidies for a $7 billion project and not have a completed concept. We need to talk to this group to gain knowledge on how they scored these public subsidies. Seems like there are different development rules for prospective downtown projects in affluent communities than in less affluent neighborhoods such as on Chicago's far south side. Our projects have to be well thought out, numerous community meetings, other sources of financing in place, and firm commitments from vertical development end users before we get full public subsidy commitments. Plus, we have to demonstrate absolute need and that the project will work. But downtown has some recent blunders of large mega scaled projects that are not living up to the hype that has been marketed. We need to change the development rules to make every area in the city equal in how public subsidies are distributed and granted. Would love to see the Mayor and the Governor make an announcement stating the city and state will commit a minimal $1 billion towards real estate development projects (i.e. housing, commercial, recreational, and industrial) on Chicago's far south side. https://lnkd.in/gcC8b_Zi
