What are #biodiversity credits, how do they work, and can they really boost conservation? This article by the @World Resources Institute, aims to answer these questions while exploring how they can be used to increase funding for biodiversity from the #PrivatSector. For example, two companies in #Colombia are selling biodiversity credits to support conservation efforts in the Bosque de Niebla cloud forest in #Colombia and working with local landowners to conserve or restore an area. New Global Analysis Offers Encouraging News - Conservation is Working: The first-ever planet-wide scientific review has found that the significant money and effort poured into protecting biodiversity is yielding measurable results. Contrary to the bleak narrative of endless species declines, this landmark study shows that when conservation actions are taken - from eradicating invasive species to restoring habitats - they often lead to outcomes many times greater than doing nothing. Today the Greenbelt Foundation released our latest report on how we can increase access to green spaces and parks in Canada’s most populous and biodiverse region. With rapid growth in southern Ontario we need contemporary approaches to creating large parks. This latest release focuses on new models for incorporating private land which are an important part of larger strategies in this complex part of Ontario. It also highlights connections to Indigenous reconciliation, critical conservation needs and more equitable green space access. Take a look!
Large parks are important green spaces that provide residents with access to nature and contribute to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem functions. In a new report released today, we offer focused solutions on the trending shortage of large parks, examining how private lands can play a role in increasing access to parks for everyone. New video out this weekend ! 🤩 We're talking conservation and monies 🥾💸 CONSERVATION, or the protection of wildlife and natural habitats is all the rave. New protected areas pop up every year and we think we are saving the world. But it’s mere advertising 😱 Because many protected areas around the world fail in protecting biodiversity. And why ? 🤔 Because conservationists are fucking broke ! 😭 Managing natural areas with efficiency requires large finances. And when there is no money, nobody is hired, and no investment is possible. This can shut down basic management operations. One of them is the monitoring of biodiversity 😤 . . . #conservation #conservationist #Ranger #nationalpark #naturalreserve #naturalresources #biodiversity #biodiversitymonitoring #funding #researchfunding #BiodiversityManagement #southafricannationalpark #sanparks #videos #Youtube #PhD #phdlife #sciencecommunication #SciComm #SCICommunity

Proud of our Planet team, including Andrew Zolli and Amy Rosenthal, for contributing to this Frontiers in Science publication, focused on biodiversity protection: https://lnkd.in/gRQfhBEH A Key Insight: "A Permanently protecting only 0.74% of land found in the tropics, where Conservation Imperatives are concentrated, could prevent the majority of predicted near-term extinctions once adequately resourced." Excellent paper on strategies for saving our rarest species: “Permanently protecting only 0.74% of land found in the tropics, where Conservation Imperatives are concentrated, could prevent the majority of predicted near-term extinctions once adequately resourced.” Congrats Amy Rosenthal!
