Big News: With our hyperspectral Tanager satellites, we’ve been selected as the primary subcontractor for Carbon Mapper to support California Air Resources Board Satellite Data Purchase Program! Excited to deliver critical hyperspectral data to this mission and support the State of California. This $95M program shows how commercial companies like Planet can help efficiently solve critical problems like methane leaks, which is of value to both government regulators and commercial industries like oil and gas. https://lnkd.in/gG254J-c

Take a closer look 🧐 Pelican-2’s first light data is here in stunning detail. We’re proud to share these high-resolution captures of the Port of Laem Chabang, Thailand, taken March 12, 2025. 🛰️ Launched earlier this year, Pelican-2 is part of our next-gen high-res tasking fleet, which will support and expand our SkySat capacity. Pelican-2 is designed to reduce downlink latency, provide 50 cm class resolution imagery, and is equipped with the NVIDIA Jetson platform for AI-enabled on-board compute – making it the latest and greatest addition to the Planet constellation. Today we’re thrilled to announce that Global Renewables Watch, a living atlas mapping and measuring solar and wind installations across the Earth, is now live to the public! Using Planet's satellite data + Microsoft’s AI tech + The Nature Conservancy’s renewable energy expertise, this initiative makes critical data visible and tracks changes for an evolving, modern world. We invite governments, policymakers, scientists, energy practitioners, and more to leverage this powerful resource for your work. Curious about what we've already found? - Asia continues to lead the solar landscape, holding 61% of the worldwide solar installed land area. - Meanwhile, Oceania has experienced the most growth, expanding at a rate of 7x, far exceeding the global average of nearly 3x. - Onshore wind turbines have more than doubled over the years, reaching 375K by the end of 2024-Q2. - More than half of Europe’s wind turbines are concentrated in five countries—Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Traditional aircraft counting methods are often limited by inconsistent coverage and cadence, and struggle with the sheer volume of data. Planet Aircraft Detection utilizes innovative machine learning techniques and PlanetScope and SkySat data to deliver daily, global detection of large aircraft. Join us on March 26 at 10 a.m. PT for a 30-minute webinar to learn about our AI-powered solution. We'll also demo the power of combining Aircraft Detection with large language models and host a Q&A session with Justin Davis and Adam Van Etten. Planet’s new Aircraft Detection Analytic Feed automates near-daily detection of aircraft by leveraging an AI model trained on our PlanetScope and SkySat data. 🛰️✈️ Aircraft detection from satellite data isn’t new, but monitoring all airports around the globe on a near-daily basis certainly is. 🌎 More than one hundred thousand commercial and military flights take place every day with planes transporting people and cargo to nearly fifty thousand airports across the globe. Being able to meaningfully scale aircraft detection is critical to gaining insightful data feeds, including linking the patterns of politics and economies with global air traffic. Read more about this analytic feed, and sign-up for our webinar on March 26 to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gwcEQJPG

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of meeting His Majesty King Charles III at Hampton Court during the Sustainable Markets Initiative Terra Carta event. During the event, we discussed the importance of EO, especially highlighting impactful use cases in agriculture and water management. We also gifted His Majesty with a framed satellite image of Nansledan, Cornwall -- the heart of his Duchy of Cornwall initiative, which promotes sustainable farming and land stewardship. It was an honour to represent Planet for this important conversation, while showcasing our commitment to responsible space exploration. Thank you for giving us this opportunity Charlotte Thorogood, Angelie Moledina & Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA

By combining over 20 million km² of PlanetScope near-daily oceanic imagery, advanced artificial intelligence, and AIS shipping data, our partner SynMax has created Theia, a maritime domain awareness solution. This intelligence-driven approach helps detect dark vessels, monitor ship-to-ship transfers, and identify illicit maritime activities, like illegal fishing. "It's Planet’s broad area monitoring that's key for Theia to do what it does,” SynMax’s CEO Brendan• M. “We couldn’t be picking up tens of thousands of vessels a day over millions of square kilometers without that breadth that Planet provides.” Read more about our partnership: https://lnkd.in/g7PXG9Rx Hear more from Brendan• M. in our SynMax-Planet partnership video:
