For example, a person might create a scrapbook or photo album of their childhood. This scrapbook can help their children to learn about their parents' lives and to see what their parents were like as children. Similarly, a person might donate their memorabilia to a museum or historical society. This can help future generations to learn about the past and to see how people lived in different times. Memorabilia can be a valuable way to preserve our memories and connect with others. They can help us to understand our past, our identity, and the world around us.

The WESTAF Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Artist Fund provides resources to and for BIPOC artists living in the 16 states and jurisdictions in the WESTAF region. The program emphasizes self-determination for BIPOC artists and their communities. The Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Artist Fund opens for individuals to apply on March 11, 2024 at 9 a.m. (MT) and closes March 31, 2024 at 11:59 (MT). Funds will be distributed from a pool of $180,000. Their intention is to distribute at least one award to each of the 16 states and jurisdictions in the WESTAF region. We will share, listen and discuss different ways of oppression that have been normalised and even institutionalised in society, giving light to the -most of the times unseen- inner struggles of how communities and individuals have been dealing with political and social crises in their daily lives. This two-day programme started as an initiative of some of the artists participating in the Refresh Amsterdam #2: War and Conflict exhibition together with some Rijksakademie resident artists and team, as a response to the institutional invisibilisation of the many ongoing human crises still occurring outside the centres of (mediatic) power. Questions on the position of art-thinking and making as activism in front of socio-ecological crisis, the agency of images and imagination as critical stance of mediatic manipulation, as well as how war and conflict are continuously embodied and experienced in the temporal and spatial distance of the territory in conflict, will be addressed. This event is part of the public programme of Refresh Amsterdam #2: War and Conflict. This edition of Refresh Amsterdam addresses the impact of international war and conflict on the contemporary city, particularly its inhabitants and social structures. Amsterdam has long viewed itself as a city of freedom and a place of refuge. But what does war do to a city and our social intercourse? Why do certain wars and conflict situations generate more solidarity than others? *Door donations and drink/food sales during the programme will be destined to cover emergency medical care to pregnant women, the sick and seriously injured in Gaza, through Doctors without Borders. https://lnkd.in/eEGbnBCb

I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who tragically lost their lives in this act of violence. Besides showing the fragility of life, this incident serves as a reminder of the need for increased awareness within our communities, especially in the online realm. As an Erasmus Mundus exchange student at Charles University, I had the privilege of participating in an academic programme that focused on understanding the impact of social media platforms. The recent tragedy has flagged significant concerns regarding the role and responsibility of social media platforms in preventing such events. Various news outlets and online media sources have highlighted that the shooter had openly shared his intentions on social media platforms, yet no concrete action was taken. Unfortunately, recent developments in encryption technology for direct messenger applications, intended to protect user privacy, have inadvertently created additional obstacles in identifying and addressing extremist ideologies online that leads to incidents like this and others including the alarming threat of online child predators. This unintended consequence has left a large portion of the online community vulnerable. While it is important to address genuine concerns regarding privacy, it is equally crucial to ensure that adequate monitoring and improved intervention strategies are in place across social media platforms to prevent future tragedies. During these sorrowful moments, it is crucial for us as a community to unite and provide support to those affected. It is also a time for deep reflection on the collective actions we can take to ensure a safer future. This unfortunate incident should serve as a catalyst for advocating stronger measures in social media governance, aiming to safeguard and uphold the safety of our society.

When swastikas and the President came to a museum's doorstep. A case study of Red Banyan shining a national spotlight on a museum targeted by antisemitism. What would you do if your organization or business was targeted by a social media attack, smear campaign, or something even worse? It started with a late-night call no institution wants to receive. Swastikas and racially-charged words scrawled in black paint on the wall of a museum that teaches history and promotes tolerance. The Florida Holocaust Museum had been vandalized. Police labeled it a hate crime amid a surge in anti-Jewish acts nationwide in 2021. The museum engaged crisis PR experts at Red Banyan and together we devised a response strategy. The mission: to turn a hateful act into something positive for the community. Jewish news outlets worldwide, as well as the national mainstream media called attention to the outrageous act. A gathering was organized - "Unite Against Hate". People of numerous races, lifestyles, religions, and from across the political spectrum rallied together. The purpose? To celebrate education and take a stand against hateful ignorance. The strategic and bold PR strategy employed by the Museum ensured that its messages and event became a national storyline. . Donations poured in,and the Museum secured support from the American President. A powerful letter from the White House in support of the Museum arrived, and was read at the event gathering supporters in a show of strength and resilience. The presence of a diverse group of supporters delivered a clear message: the Museum was not alone. The Florida Holocaust Museum used this ugly affair as an opportunity to attract support from a broad cross-section of the community. When hate intended to instill fear arrives at your door, meet it with courage and confidence(and an expert PR response). The Museum ultimately emerged stronger, with ties now binding it even more closely to the community. From a place of pain, progress was born. The Museum continues to inspire, and today is recognized not just for the world-class caliber of its exhibits, but its moral clarity and fearlessness. If you enjoyed this: 1.
