In the post-post-COVID world, most vacancies I've been coming across lately are for on-site roles. A few are hybrid to some degree, and just a few are fully remote. It got me thinking about whether remote work is still a thing, and in what sort of scenarios it can still work. My thoughts: * If you're highly organised, it can work. I once did a crash course in Scrum management, for teams - and I still apply the same "sprint" principles to my remote work, to ensure I make good on time-pressured deliverables. * If you're not the face of your employer. I tend to work as an outsourced resource to companies but I'm not directly involved in their engagement with their clients. * When you're a bit more senior in years? That way, you have probably had a good few years' experience working in an agency, or in a corporate setting - which is important in understanding the dynamics and pressures of different remote employers. * When you're an articulate communicator, whether that's on a Zoom call or via e-mail or WhatsApp. The ability to really listen and speak with clarity and understanding is key. * When the kind of work you're good at can be done remotely. I spend most of my day researching and writing digital content, which is best suited to a quiet space. When I worked on-site for employers, I always used to try and desk myself as much on the periphery as possible (other writers may relate). * When you're in a different country! I've been seeing a lot of roles coming up for South Africans with UK- or US-based companies (if you can work the night shift, in many cases). Obviously, given the respective exchange rates, remote roles like these can prove mutually beneficial. As a freelancer, contractor, employee or employer, what's your take on remote work in 2024? What's with the growing resistance to hiring remote employees? ⚫ Surprisingly, a few years back, when the world turned upside down due to the pandemic, people realized how productive working remotely was. However, I am seeing a spike in hiring rates for on-site employees rather than remote, which is concerning. It is not that I am against working on-site but do you know? 'n 14% of full-time workers do all of their work remotely. 'n 57% are full-time office workers. 'n 29% of employees use a hybrid model. 📢 22% of American workers are expected to work remotely by 2025. Even with this expansion, 59.1% of the workforce works onsite, meaning that most employees still work in offices. But, things may take a U-turn in the coming years. The increased productivity and engagement that comes with working remotely is one of its main perks. 📈 Research indicates that 81% of hybrid workers experience high levels of engagement, as opposed to 78% of entirely remote workers and only 72% of on-site workers. There's more. ***After the pandemic, 68% of women and 57% of men, respectively, preferred working remotely, as per a Flexjobs survey.*** ***The estimated value of the global freelancing market as of February 2024 is $3.39 billion. This industry employs1.57 billion people, with an average hourly wage of $21*** It is about time we realize that productivity and profitability come with devotion, engagement and a sense of security. No wonder, freelancers contribute massively to the market. 📌 What's your take on this? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ♻ Repost and help me expand my network. 📢 DM for killer content and copywriting services. #Remotework #ContentWriting #SEO #onsite #remote #DigitalMarketing #Innovation #Technology #Socialmedia #socialnetworking #Onlinepresence #Leadgeneration

Why is Remote such a “thing” in IT? 💻 The traditional way to work has undergone a huge shift in such a short period of time that we still wonder when exactly and why exactly this happened. I personally see the remote as the new default for developers and I’ve experienced a couple of factors that Influenced this change. The "New Normal" Post-COVID 😷 I think Covid made a huge before/after in all the ways we live and work. In IT, it’s more evident because building a robust business infrastructure online is not just feasible but often preferable. Employers can tap into a broader market, finding top-tier talent globally, while employees can find more competitive opportunities. Simply put, location is no longer a limit. Money, Taxes, and Global Talent 📊 Established market rates and taxes vary significantly across countries. The salary of a mid developer in the US and in developing countries like Armenia differs drastically. As does the taxation system. And because equally skilled professionals can be hired for much less, companies can now maintain high standards while managing costs effectively. Reducing Overheads 📉 Do you know how expensive it is to run a physical office? There’s rent, utilities, office equipment, maintenance, security, let alone the snacks, coffee (cause we all know how important a good coffee machine is), let alone other small employee benefits. Many companies are closing their offices in favour of global hiring. This not only reduces overhead costs but also supports a more flexible, dynamic workforce. To my fellow developers, I can only suggest turning this to your advantage, applying for more remote jobs and building a decent work-life balance. Do you love or hate remote jobs? #melkontech #remote #IT

Try this data-driven analysis of the return-to-office debate, where Erica Hearne clearly explains the inaccuracies of much media reporting. The numbers don't lie. 📊 "Recent headlines have focused on the decline in remote-only roles as a return-to-office trend. However, Grow Remote sees a strong demand for remote opportunities, with numerous Irish companies and global firms continuing to grow their remote teams. Grow Remote’s works to make these opportunities visible to Irish talent, connect job seekers with employers who support remote roles, and support communities adapting to the needs of a remote workforce." https://lnkd.in/egJ_9j-B
