In my research article, I discuss microplastics and their unexpected existence in animal feed. Through intensive study and analysis of scientific literature like the National Library of Medicine, I explored the potential health impacts of microplastics on the human body. I also had the honor of speaking with Metabolic Engineer specialists Professor Nathan Crook who along side PhD candidate Tianyu Li who have found a genius solution to reducing microplastic pollution. Excited to share our latest article on the seed-borne microbiome of maize, where we compared a commercial hybrid (Santa Helena) with a landrace variety (Sol da Manhã). 🌽 This work resulted from a team effort conducted by Sarah Henaut Jacobs, Beatriz Barcelos, Francisnei Pedrosa-Silva and Fabio Olivares and myself. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: - The landrace variety showed 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆. - We found distinct genes related to 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, particularly in the landrace variety. - Recovered 𝟭𝟴 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 (MAGs), including four potentially novel species. 🌟 Thrilled to Share Our Latest Research! 🌟 I'm excited to announce the publication of our recent paper, "The efficiency of a granular Fe-based metal-organic framework for the persulfate oxidative degradation of levofloxacin, an emerging antibiotic in wastewater," in the Journal of Molecular Liquids! 📄✨ In this study, we address the challenges of leaching and regeneration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in water treatment by developing a novel encapsulated MIL-88(Fe) with alginate. This modified MOF effectively activates sulfate radicals with sodium persulfate, significantly degrading levofloxacin (LVX) in water. My research focused on the effect of Hibiscus sabdariffa addition on the bioactive compounds in fermented soursop (Annona muricata) tea during production. It was an incredible experience to delve into the science behind enhancing tea's health benefits.
