MannKind announced today that it will proceed with a first-in-human Phase 1 study of nintedanib DPI (MNKD-201) for pulmonary fibrotic diseases – including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). According to @PulmonaryFibrosisFoundation, there are more than 250,000 Americans living with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) today with 50,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Sadly, as many as 40,000 Americans die from IPF each year. Alpha₁-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD or alpha-1) is also known as genetic COPD, as the manifestations of AATD at the pulmonary level are related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This Alpha-1 Awareness Month, we want to highlight the testimony of Mariano Pastor, president of the Alpha-1 Spain Association. 🆕 study by Prof. Nahum Méndez-Sánchez, 500 participants. 📌 Although MASLD has a higher capture of lean patients compared to MAFLD, patients with MAFLD and MASLD have a worse metabolic profile than those with only MASLD. 📌 The study provide evidence that MAFLD better identifies patients likely to have a higher risk of liver fibrosis and of disease progression.
