Happy Independence Day. I invite you to take 2 minutes to read Frederic Fransen’s thought-provoking piece, "The Experiment Continues: What, to an American Today, Is the Fourth of July?" I'm reminded of the profound impact our nation's founding principles have worldwide. Fransen eloquently highlights how American Independence Day is celebrated not just here at home but in places like Denmark, Norway, and Ireland, underscoring the global resonance of our quest for equality and freedom. As we enjoy parades, BBQs, and fireworks, let's remember the deeper significance behind the festivities. The Fourth of July is more than just celebration; it's a moment to reflect on the aspirational ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence. These ideals challenge us to continually strive for a more perfect union, acknowledging both our achievements and the work that remains. Frederick Douglass once questioned what the Fourth of July meant to the American slave, revealing the gap between American ideals and reality. Today, it's crucial for us to pause and ask what the Fourth of July means to us. How can we better align our practices with our principles? This Fourth of July, let's draw inspiration from the global celebrations of our Independence Day and commit to living up to the noble aspirations of our founding documents. It's an opportunity for each of us to reflect on the role we can play in forming a more perfect union. If others around the world can honor our journey, surely we can too. 🇺🇸 #IndependenceDay #FourthOfJuly #AmericanPrinciples #Equality #Reflection #MorePerfectUnion

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY AMERICA! Independence Day, celebrated on the Fourth of July, marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This day is historically significant because it commemorates the Continental Congress's declaration that the 13 American colonies of the New World were no longer subject to British rule. Considering Britain's status as a global superpower at the time, declaring independence required immense courage. The quest for freedom that Independence Day symbolizes extends far beyond the signing of a document. While Americans have been celebrating Independence Day for many years, much like Christmas, the true meaning can sometimes be overshadowed by the festivities. This day represents the ongoing efforts to achieve and maintain freedom, a struggle that continues even today. We cherish fireworks displays and July 4 parades, with their decorated floats, marching bands, and U.S. flags. However, it is important to remember the sacrifices that made these celebrations possible and to recognize that such sacrifices persist in various forms. #july4 #independenceday #13colonies #america #britain #freedom #revolution #americanrevolution #independence #declaration #bitishrule #americandominance #americathegreat #usa
