Youth and Inequality:
Despite efforts being made, inequalities continue to persist within and between communities, countries, etc. For instance, in Kenya, despite having a constitution that provides radical changes in running affairs of the country and stemming disparities and marginalization, it also creates avenues for the same (marginalization & regional disparities) to emerge and or deepen.
In fact, evidence shows renewed marginalization - marginalization and economic inequalities are rife in different regions, to different degrees.
Thus, in the spirit of ensuring that all enjoy equal access to opportunity #leavenoonebehind it is imperative that we empower local communities and leaders to confront #inequalities
Addressing disparities requires a fresh approach (rethinking inequalities and marginalization), i.e., thinking outside the box & developing innovative solutions. For example, by marshalling energy, creativity & talents of the young people to address multiple inequalities they face, helping key players including the youth understand marginalization & inequalities from a more localized perspective [using data and evidence], and investing resources in development & adoption of the right tools that can be used to reduce inequalities, including supporting evidence generation and utilization to bring about desired change.
I am glad I got started on this journey of supporting #youth to be agents of their own future. Thanks to the Emerging Leaders Foundation (ELF Africa) for the opportunity to speak to the iLEAD Fellows #changemakers about inequalities and marginalization in Kenyan society. Always a pleasure to connect with, inspire and mentor young people 🙏🏾
