Excited to share that I presented my paper titled "Real-time Model Predictive Control for Techno-Economical Battery Management in Distributed Power Grids Using Day-Ahead Optimization" at the 24th EEEIC and 8th I&CPS Conference held at Sapienza University of Roma. On Friday, July 26th I presented our accepted paper at the International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Energy Technologies. ICECET 2024. Special thanks to our colleagues Habiba Ahmed and Eva Barbulescu for their efforts during the research project. The paper is expected to be shown in IEEE Explore in September 2024 Our paper titled "Advanced Electrical Network Stability Using Hybrid PV &EV Systems in Smart Cities" focuses on the integration of electric vehicle (EV) and photovoltaic (PV) technologies into the power grid, highlighting their role in advancing sustainable energy. The proposed design flow diagram addresses challenges related to grid stability caused by PV intermittency and EV charging demands, including voltage and frequency fluctuations. The research introduces effective management strategies and a comprehensive mathematical model for assessing various stabilization methods. It underscores the significance of smart inverters, demand response programs, and energy storage in enhancing grid resilience and adaptability. The study demonstrates how hybrid PV and EV systems can significantly improve system efficiency while ensuring network stability, thereby supporting sustainable energy goals. A case study is included to illustrate system stability under different conditions, both with grid support and with the assistance of a diesel generator. Habiba A. 📢New year, new SCARLET publication! A scientific article entitled “MgB2-based MVDC Superconducting Power Cable in Liquid Hydrogen for Hybrid Energy Distribution“ was accepted for publication in the journal IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, after having been presented at the European Conference on Applied Superconductivity last September. The article discusses the distribution of both hydrogen and bulk electricity in the same infrastructure by using a hydrogen-cooled superconducting cable, as will be demonstrated in SCARLET. After a description of the rationale and benefits of such a hybrid system, various possible applications and a first distribution system are presented. Furthermore, the different cable components already designed are discussed along with the research challenges and general strategy for the cable development. I'm pumped about the opportunity to attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society Conference next week! These types of events never fail to energize both my personal and professional development. Gaining insight and perspective from the event and then carrying that momentum into our content always adds value to our message that can be passed throughout the workforce. A few concepts I consider when attending events and conferences: - Making new connections and strengthening existing ones. - Research speakers and session topics ahead of time. Allowing me time to actively listen and be present during the event. - Can I incorporate any information and insight taken from the event and make it a part of the podcast? - Are any exhibitors highlighting solutions or technology that is relevant to the workforce and/or our audience? - Be up to date on current topics and sports to engage in small talk. - Gather enough information to recap the event to the team and summarize the experience in a post.
