The 2024 hurricane season was predicted to be highly active and sure enough it began dramatically with #HurricaneBeryl, which broke numerous records. As James Done of NSF NCAR - The National Center for Atmospheric Research writes, https://ow.ly/p3ck50SRfBk, not only do the big signals for this year’s North Atlantic #hurricane season lie in the oceans but also and alarmingly, the pattern of heat across the North Atlantic Ocean closely resembles the pattern that has historically produced the most active seasons. Meanwhile, over in the equatorial Eastern Pacific Ocean, a rapid cooling is under way signaling the imminent arrival of La Niña so if the Atlantic and Pacific oceans work together in the same direction, will that create a hyperactive hurricane season? Brace Yourselves: Unprecedented #Hurricane Season Ahead As we approach what might be the most severe hurricane season in history, the data is alarming. The images below depict water temperature anomalies: • 2005: The year of Hurricane #Katrina, one of the most hashtag #devastating hurricane seasons ever recorded. • 2024: 90% of hurricane-generating regions are experiencing the hottest water temperatures on record. Warmer waters fuel larger, more impactful #storms. This year, we're facing a formidable challenge. Record Water Temperature Anomalies 2005 vs 2024 https://lnkd.in/g2vmXgP2

Hurricane Beryl is breaking records as it races across the Caribbean. It is the earliest Category 4 hurricane in recorded history, it intensified from a tropical depression to a Category 4 in just two days, it is the hurricane with lowest pressure since Hurricane Maria in 2017, and overnight it became a major Category 5 hurricane. The reason for this is the extremely high water temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico that fuel the development of intense storms. Another reason is the change in weather patterns from El Niño to La Niña which is more favorable for hurricane development. Unfortunately, meteorologists believe this won’t be the only record-breaking storm of the season. As we keep our neighbors in the Caribbean in our thoughts, you can read more about this dangerous phenomenon here: https://bit.ly/HurrBeryl #HurricaneBeryl #storms #hurricane

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has been wrestling with more efficient ways to convey hurricane risk with visual graphics, such as the "Cone of Uncertainty". Per the post below on the Atlantic States Weather page, the NHC is looking to update this product, as evidence suggests that the current version is not well understood (or is misused) by the general population. Similarly, one of the primary goals of a consulting meteorologist is to translate the science of meteorology into language/visuals that the layperson or "non-meteorologist" can better comprehend. Whether communicating with attorneys, adjusters, insurance companies, or a trial jury, a Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) has been vetted by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) for the training, experience and skills to explain meteorology/climate, and their impacts, in such a manner that can be more easily understood, and hopefully, helpful in a civil liability or property damage case. #ConsultingMeteorologist #Forensicmeteorology #weatherexpert #forensicinvestigation #nhc
Graphics from the National Hurricane center (NHC) may look different in 2024 as the NHC tests replacements for the 'Cone of Uncertainty' product. Read more about the impetus for the possible change here: https://lnkd.in/e_rJSQEt. #nhc #noaa #weather #hurricane #hurricaneseason #hurricaneseason2024
