🚨 FEMA Update 🚨 Today, in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security and the White House, FEMA has unveiled the allocation of nearly $2 billion in funding for two pivotal resilience grant initiatives, meticulously crafted to empower communities in their efforts to counter the impacts of climate change and the growing frequency of severe weather events. Under the aegis of FEMA's Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) annual grant program, an impressive $1 billion has been earmarked to finance projects that are geared towards safeguarding both people and vital infrastructure against the perils of natural hazards and the adverse effects of climate change. ❗❗ Yesterday, FEMA, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and The White House announced nearly $2 billion in funding for #climateresilience projects nationwide. With climate change causing more frequent and intense disasters, building #mitigation measures into community projects and #infrastructure is essential to ensuring long-term resilience. The funding will be available through two #resilience grant programs designed to mitigate future #disasters and climate change. FEMA has announced nearly $2 billion in available funding for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities and #FloodMitigation Assistance grant programs, designed to help communities mitigate against climate change and increasingly frequent and severe weather events.   These programs are some of the most flexible resilience grant programs in the federal government and can be used by communities to better understand disaster risk and vulnerability, conduct community-driven resilience and hazard mitigation planning, and design transformational projects.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/drPH5Jc3

Every mitigation grant announcement is great and reflects years of hard work by local, state, and federal government leaders. However, we cannot ignore just how long it takes for grant recipients to actually break ground and get funds disbursed. According to OpenFEMA HMA data, for FY 2020-2022 FMA and BRIC allocations, FEMA has only actually awarded $1.110 billion. Of that, FEMA has only disbursed $47.181 million (4.25%). Of the 1,188 subgrants, 875 (73.65%) have not actually received one dollar. Critical, lifesaving resilience funds are sitting unused! Disaster Relief Strategies has solutions to bridge this financial gap so jurisdictions can expedite their awarded projects and free up resources to take on even larger HMA projects.

Since then, on June 5, World Environment Day has been observed across the globe to raise awareness around environmental action. This year's theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience" with the slogan "Our Land. Our Future”. In today’s unpredictable world, concerns about natural hazards, human disasters and climate change are ever-present. This uncertainty often leads us to ponder numerous “what ifs” regarding the environment we live in, creating a sense of apprehension. So, how can we manage this anxiety effectively? The European Commission, in close cooperation with Member States, identified 5 goals to pursue collectively, in the field of disaster risk management, so that European citizens are safe in any scenario, both unforeseen and expected: 1. Anticipate 2. Prepare 3. Alert 4. Respond 5. Secure ❇ In this context, "DRM Frame" can play a pivotal role in the field of Disaster Risk Management (DRM). The project integrates existing scientific multi-disciplinary knowledge in the field and co-develops innovative approaches and tools for learning, training, and navigation in the field of civil protection and resilience. The project is mostly oriented to the development of skills and capacity of professionals in DRM.
