How to push the boundaries of #LiDAR applications in wind? Quite a few ideas at #WindTech24💡 Paula Gomez presented outcomes of the #WindCal2 project, a new method for calibrating #nacelle #lidars that reduces uncertainty, increases speed, and improves the economic performance of wind power assets, with innovations including a highly accurate lidar-based wind speed sensor and an automated #calibration process. Carsten Ropeter explored the use of #Doppler #Lidars in the wind industry, their performance under different environmental conditions, particularly in low aerosol atmospheres, and the implications of these measurements for #EnergyYieldAssessments, demonstrated through a concurrent measurement campaign in Finland and Austria. Zoe Goss discussed the benefits and challenges of using #lidaronly #measurement campaigns in the wind industry, the development of a process to optimize these campaigns by minimizing wind speed uncertainty, and the potential of this process to improve project financing and early-stage development. And Andy Oldroyd addressed the challenges and implications of measuring #TurbulenceIntensity (TI) in offshore wind projects, the impact of TI errors on structural modelling and energy yield, and the need for improved measurement methods and campaign designs to align with both wind resource and structural requirements. I remember meeting them as a group of PhDs, tirelessly working on their prototypes while raising their first funds to bring their vision to life. It takes time and craft to build things that get to space 🛰️ “Saving billions of tons of freshwater requires a sharp pair of eyes. 👀 Hence, a meeting with a satellite optometrist was one of the last tests before shipping constellr's satellite to the launch site. “With the support of the European Space Agency’s #InCubed program*, we expect SkyBee 1 to lead the charge in our HiVE constellation, helping save 60 billion tons of water in the next 5 years and prevent 14 megatons of CO2 emissions.
