Do you have a Head of Department who is trying to protect your research time as a new research leader? I guess this can be hard to do as a head of department. How much should new research leaders be protected from the madness of the academic turmoil? Most will tell you that their work allocation is an alternative reality but certainly not the one they experience each day. Being supported by their line managers is not something you hear often from early career academics. It was great to hear from Thushan de Silva that his head department had really encouraged him to have more protected research time when he started as a Clinical Academic, giving him the space to build his research niche and collaboration, and settling in his role. That early stage in building a research portfolio and team is so precious. Getting new research leaders to have the best chance to be successful. If you are managing early career academics and research fellows, what are you doing to help them thrive in setting up their research group? My discussion with Thushan: https://lnkd.in/egva37eg #greatleadership #researchculture #clinicalacademic

6th Annual NASPAA & ICPA-Forum/JCPA Workshop-- Call Open, Proposals due Tomorrow!! Do your classes systematically compare and teach students how to engage in comparative analysis—whether of issues, programs, agencies, levels, branches, types of government, and countries—in the field of public affairs? Are you interested in writing a short paper about your teaching experiences, and getting in-depth feedback from peers to better prepare the paper for publication? Co-convened by Susan Appe (University at Albany, SUNY) and Sean McCandless (The University of Texas at Dallas) this workshop (11am-4pm) considers the ways in which effective governance in the public and nonprofit sectors demand a comparative perspective, especially to evaluate how and why similarities and differences in contexts, cultures, leadership, management, structures, and more matter. We adopt a “big tent” approach to explore and assess how comparative lenses are being applied and used in our MPA and MPP curricula. Learn More: https://lnkd.in/ekJ-icSQ https://lnkd.in/eSMKXXwd
