Last Friday evening marked an important moment for the REIC team as we had the privilege of meeting with the esteemed German Minister for Europe and Climate, Anna Lührmann, accompanied by Daniel Stinsky, Mareike Well and Frederic Jörgens. Their three-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina was part of a comprehensive discussion with high-level politicians about various topics related to the 27th Chapter of the EU acquis, which focuses on environmental protection and climate change. The last day of their visit was a working dinner, where our team was honored to present insights into Bosnia and Herzegovina’s climate and energy landscape. This was an opportunity to discuss the current bottlenecks hindering a faster energy transition in our country. Such discussions are crucial for understanding the complex challenges we face and exploring potential solutions to accelerate our progress towards sustainable energy goals. REIC is proud to broaden its ties with German-based institutions and organizations. This meeting was not only a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering international collaborations but also a stepping stone towards making significant strides in the energy sector. We are enthusiastic about the future possibilities this partnership could bring and remain dedicated to contributing to a sustainable Bosnia and Herzegovina. #REIC #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #EUAcquis #InternationalCollaboration

Henrik Huitfeldt, Acting Head of Operations Section — Economic Cooperation, Energy, Infrastructure and Environment of the EU Delegation to Ukraine: “In the context of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, further steps in strengthening the country’s energy independence are extremely important. New energy-saving and generating solutions and green innovations, developed through Climate Innovations Vouchers with EU support, can make the Ukrainian economy more agile and resilient. They will also contribute to resource-efficiency, sustainability, and low-carbon development stipulated by the European Green Deal agenda”. 🏆 About the CIV grant scheme: The Climate Innovation Vouchers (CIV) scheme is part of the EBRD's Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) programme, which is supported by the EU through the EU4CLIMATE initiative. The Ukrainian NGO Greencubator has been successfully implementing it in Ukraine since 2017. 🔍 Which 🇺🇦 companies will receive about half a million euros from the EBRD and the EU? On 14 December 2023, the European Council announced the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union 🇪🇺 This day will be written in history as Ukraine proves its readiness to become part of the EU every day. Not only Europe, but the whole world has seen how fiercely Ukrainians are ready to defend their values and their European choice! Reforms are the stepping stones to the European Union. Step by step, Ukraine is overcoming them. The APENA 3 project team, consisting of international and Ukrainian experts, provides all possible support along the way, in particular to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine. The devastating impact of Russian aggression on the Ukrainian environment and climate, the huge amount of military waste and debris, and the impossibility of conducting any environmental protection activities or data collection in the occupied territories have all become a challenge to our European integration goals. However, the regulations developed, in particular by APENA 3 experts, to support the waste management reform are being adopted and are launching important changes in the sector. Active work is ongoing on the development of Regional Waste Management Plans for 3 oblasts of Ukraine. In addition, project experts are working on Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for the 3 pilot oblasts, as well as providing comprehensive support to the MinEnv team in promoting ambitious climate goals at the international level, as well as improving EIA and SEA legislation. The #APENA3 project is a technical assistance project funded by the European Union in Ukraine and aims to "Strengthen the capacity of regional and local administrations for implementation and enforcement of EU environmental and climate change legislation and development of infrastructure projects". The project is implemented by Egis in Ukraine, Caucasus & Central Asia and ENVIROPLAN

#Ukraine – What is at stake for the environment? Mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sjenkevych gave an opening comment at our #Folkemødet panel discussion which tackled the environmental impact of green recovery actions in Ukraine and #Denmark’s role in Ukraine’s recovery and green transition. Sjenkevych described the damages to the critical infrastructure and the hardship experienced by the Mykolaiv citizens caused by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Mykolaiv is one of the cities where Denmark is funding projects through Nefco's Green Recovery Programme for Ukraine. "We want to diversify heating and change the water supply to make it more efficient, greener and more resilient. -- We need to think about the future, the end of the war. -- Mykolaiv can be a door to the Ukrainian market for Danish companies in the utility sector,” Sjenkevych said.
