Happy Homecoming weekend to all of my fellow Kentucky State University alumni! I am proud to be an HBCU graduate, more specifically a K-State grad. HBCUs provide some of the best leadership development opportunities to students that may be otherwise overlooked and undervalued. During my time at Kentucky State I learned three valuable skills in leadership: 1. Relationship building. Not only did I develop lifelong friendships and a great network(shoutout to my Kstate friend group that we refer to as The Network), but also I am still connected to various staff and faculty that I met there. I can always count ona warm hug and “how are you doing?” when I run into them. And homecomings are like a big family reunion. 2. Resilience. When you fill a campus with students from various socioeconomic backgrounds and varied accessibility to resources, you learn that where there is a will there is a way. I learned how to face challenges and not give up so easily because I had faculty members that knew how to push and encourage me to endure. I also had different friend groups from my undergrad to grad time that supported each other and held each other accountable. 3. Self-Awareness. If you have ever walked an HBCU campus you may think you have stepped into a spontaneous fashion show depending on the time of day. That is the place where we learned who we are and expressed it through our fashions, our art, and our creativity. We had a safe space to show up as authentically and fully as we could. And this allowed us to explore the emotions and layers of experience tied to that. We learned how to communicate the things we lived through that we may not have had language for because someone else had gone through it too and could give us their language. We learned how to recognize the feelings that were ours versus the feelings that had been projected on us by culture. I am product of many things, and one of those is my HBCU. NP organizations can complement academic programs by providing #DNP students with experiential learning and mentorship. This article focuses on a regional NP organization that provided mentoring to DNP students who joined their leadership board. SPS is bridging opportunity gaps to give ALL students the opportunity to live their best life. 94% of students graduate on time, including multilingual learners. Many districts expect the graduation rate for multilingual learners to be lower...making excuses instead of opportunity. So proud of SPS.

During the 2017-2018 academic year, the Network launched its first Middle Leadership Academy to support nine #CSU campus teams in implementing Executive Order (EO) 1110, which required the elimination of remedial English and mathematics courses. Our recent report highlights how campus teams utilized the Academy to plan and execute their responses to EO 1110 in math, explores the Academy's capacity for fostering equitable change within the CSU, and suggests that year-long leadership academies involving faculty, staff, and administrators can enhance the implementation of new policies mandated by the CSU Chancellor’s Office or campus leadership. Nurturing new leaders Leadership Without Borders, now 10 years old, empowers and serves undocumented students on campus. When you're an undocumented student, nearly every step of your college journey is a challenge. Juggling essays, transcripts, financial aid, school tours and choosing a major, you’re also navigating immigration policies and risking exposing your citizenship status.
