Every day, our interns experience the power of the ITW Business Model through real-world, on-the-job assignments. Axel Freund, an industrial management technology student at Northern Illinois University and a Safety intern at ITW Shakeproof knows this first-hand. Through his internship, Axel has been able to learn more about what makes ITW successful while gaining valuable experiences to ignite his career journey. Q: Why did you choose to intern at ITW? A: I thought the huge scope of ITW’s operations would act as an excellent catalyst for learning about general industry, business operations, and my role. Further, throughout the interview process, the folks I spoke with represented the company extremely well and showed it was a friendly place to work, which is important to me. Q: What has been your most enjoyable intern experience this summer? A: I loved working with United Way in Chicago during ITW’s Day of Action. Not only was it a great way to spend a day, but it helped me meet other professionals in the company and build my network. Q: What has been one of your biggest takeaways from your internship so far? A: There is so much to learn, and the sky is the limit. I am really getting a grasp on the scale of business and all the interworking parts in a way that previously was not on my radar. I am getting a good idea of what avenues I can take through my career to get where I want to go. #ProudToBeITW

Hello LinkedIn! I'm excited to share that, last week, I completed my Winter Externship at PwC, in partnership with Paragon One! This experience has been invaluable, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a professional setting. During my internship, I had the chance to: 1) Develop my skills in competitive analysis, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of market trends and competive strategies. 2) Refine my research capabilities, learning how to effectively gather and synthesize information to support my personal recommendations. 3) Master the art of time management, juggling multiple high stake projects while meeting deadlines efficiently. I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to Scott Sears, Erin Brooks, Ashni Shah, and Dipesh Mittal for their mentorship and guidance throughout this internship. Their support and expertise have been instrumental in my professional growth. I'm excited to see what the future holds and leverage the skills I gained at PwC in my future endeavors. #PwC #Extern #Internship #CompetitiveAnalysis #Research #TimeManagement #ThankYou

Summer is around the corner and internships will kick off soon for many students. We recently held a panel session with former Alvarez & Marsal CPI and Public Sector interns to help welcome our new crew. Here is some of the advice they shared as well as other tips gleaned from experience: · Be present. Every interaction is an opportunity to make an impression. How you show up each moment with your attire, attitude, and work quality matters. · Be curious. Say yes to assignments and be open to opportunities that present themselves. · Be prepared. Do your research on the company before you start. Arrive with SMART goals in mind. · Be intentional with your outreach. Before meeting with colleagues prepare in advance with bio reviews and tailored questions. Spend time and be supportive of your fellow interns. Meet as many people as possible. · Be reflective. After seeking feedback in a thoughtful way that is mindful of colleagues’ time and roles, create an action plan to address opportunities and further develop strengths. Think critically about your compatibility with the company’s culture, the nature of the work and your anticipated responsibilities of a full-time role. · Make an impact by not only doing the job that is asked of you but by going above and beyond to add value to the organization. To achieve impact, listen, clarify, identify opportunities, and provide actionable solutions. · Have fun! #lovewhatyoudo

Halfway through my internship at Korn Ferry, and what a journey it’s been! Here are the top three lessons I’ve learned so far ⤵️ 🌟Be Curious: Actively asking questions and seeking out diverse perspectives has allowed me to expand my knowledge of Korn Ferry, subsequently improving the quality of my work. Also, don’t forget to ask questions beyond work topics to help build stronger relationships, as not all conversations have to be work-related. 🌟Be Present: The shift to flexible work-from-home policies post-COVID has changed how we connect. As an intern, I’ve found that being physically present in the office allows me to connect with people I might not meet online. These connections can lead to exciting project opportunities! 🌟Be Yourself: Korn Ferry fosters an inclusive environment that encourages me to bring my full self to work. Maintaining a positive balance between authenticity and professionalism is essential for networking and building meaningful relationships in all aspects of life. Remember, being authentic is what makes you unique and valuable! I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my internship so far. I’m excited for the next five weeks and eager to continue learning and growing with your guidance. #bemorethan #internship #kornferry #lessons

Final year student at University of Pretoria | BEng Chemical Engineering | UP Consulting Society EC | Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellow
Though this update comes considerably late, I have opted to still share it, now having had time to reflect on the experience. On the 1st of July, I commenced a 3 week Internship at the esteemed consulting firm Kearney, along with 5 other incredibly perceptive interns. The stated goal of the programme was to provide participants with a first-hand view of the consulting world and the skills it takes to thrive within it. Now I could tell you of the numerous software packages we learnt to use during the time. I could tell you of the consulting-specific skillsets we obtained (such as storylining and how to set up a proposal). I could speak of the many poignant lessons we learnt from our engagements with the full-time staff of the firm. And all of it would be true. But the greatest triumph of this internship was not just in what it taught me about consulting, but what it taught me about myself. During the internship I was forced to contend with uncertainty; as is often the case when presented with a problem that doesn't have just one correct answer. I had to consider my ability to perform as part of a collective, one that often had various views on how to achieve the goal. I had to navigate the corporate environment and the intricacies it entails. I learnt about my interpersonal strengths and weaknesses and the importance of being coachable. I had to confront the balance between confidence and humility; being able to demonstrate intelligence/competence while still acknowledging that there is still more to learn. Finally, I had to learn the importance of EQ in a culture-driven firm such as this one. And in all the aforementioned ways, I am a better professional (and a better person) for having had the opportunity to attend this wonderful internship. To that end, I am grateful to all who made this experience possible including, but not limited to, the Kearney recruitment team, the various mentors offered to us during the period, and the other 5 interns from whom I learnt a great deal.
