In the immortal words of Bon Jovi - “Woah, we’re halfway there…” Halfway through my secondment with Poppyscotland and what a four months it has been. Over those months, there have been many, many, many day… I’ve distilled them into one of the five different types. 1️⃣ a school day: with new areas of IG to learn about (enjoying raffles and regular giving), and reshaping my love of legacies. New techniques for DM, and different ways of working. 2️⃣ a planning day: planning my time to ensure that I can fit it all that is important, and moving aside the bits which I have absolutely ability to change or impact. 3️⃣ a reflection day: talking with those in my network about what I’ve learned, what’s gone well, what hasn’t, and what would I do differently next time… 4️⃣ a prioritising day: understanding that my priorities, really aren’t everyone else’s priorities, and that their priorities really aren’t mine too. With a little caring and sharing still gets the job done! 5️⃣ a “not today Satan” day. Enough said. I’m looking forward to a few more types of days, as I move into months 5, 6, 7 and 8 - there’s a another song on there somewhere….

OCS, it's interesting that a book I have been reading about success, stresses Admiral McRaven's famous advice. (If you want to change the world, make your bed). When I was working for OCS I began on a journey that continues. A journey of learning to better at cleaning, as part of pursuing success in work. "Cleaning" is not my middle name... I trust there are thousands of staff at OCS being inspired to change the world as they see the difference they make to assets they are assigned to. The book is The Alone Advantage, and the chapter I just reread was "Your Laundry Isn't Finished Yet" (pp 29-36).

How many times do you say ‘thank you’ in a day? You don’t need to count that. But I am sure we don’t say ‘thank you’ enough times. Gratitude is powerful. It makes others feel appreciated and changes our perspective. When we say ‘thank you,’ we see the good in our lives, no matter how small. Think about how our day could change if we tried to say ‘thank you’ more often. Thank the office staff who refills your water bottle. Thank the security guard who showed you where to park. Thank your colleagues and teams for attending the meeting you called. Even thank the driver who waited so you could cross the road. Gratitude creates a ripple effect. It boosts morale, strengthens relationships, and even makes the workplace better. When we show appreciation, we build a culture of kindness and respect. So, start today. Make it a habit to say ‘thank you’ more often. You might be surprised at how much it can change your day and the days of those around you. And thank you for reading this post! 🙂

SUSHI 🍣 CLASS, HIKES 🥾DISNEYLAND 🎢🎟️, ZIPLINING 🪢 #cultureevents At PSS, we believe in working hard and playing hard! 🎉 For Q4, we’re taking things to the next level by letting the team vote on our big culture events. Each of us pitched our ideas, and now we all have 3 votes to choose the activity we’ll do together. The winning event? Well, you’ll have to wait and see! But this picture is more than just a whiteboard with tallies—it’s a reflection of how we value giving everyone a voice. It’s about creating a space where every team member can share their ideas and have a say in shaping our company culture. Every idea matters, and this voting process ensures that everyone is part of the decision. Events like these aren’t just about having fun—they’re about building deeper connections, showing appreciation, and reinforcing our core values. It’s important to me that my team feels seen, cared for, and recognized for the hard work they put in every day. That’s why we’re closing the office for a full Friday to celebrate and recharge together. What event would you vote for?🌟 #TeamPSS #WorkHardPlayHard #CultureMatters #TeamBuilding

We don’t consider a day done until everyone makes it home safe and sound. This month’s Safety From the Start winner, Khushi Hira, knows that our safety culture is a huge part of what helps her dad, and the rest of the Performance team, make it home safely. Remember those 🎉 Spirit Week 🎉 pep rallies? Let's bring that same energy into the workplace! As L&D professionals, part of our job is to orchestrate experiences that bridge generational gaps and get employees feeling like teammates. If you're looking to shake things up, consider hosting a Spirit Week for your employees, and schedule a variety of events throughout the week. Here are some of our ideas to get you started. Leave a comment to add to the list! ⬇️ 1. Head to a local 🗝️ escape room 🗝️ to encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and communication. 2. Conduct an interactive 🤝 team building workshop 🤝 focused on enhancing a specific skill such as conflict resolution or leadership. 3. Plan an 👟 outdoor adventure 👟 such as hiking, zip-lining, or a ropes course to build trust and camaraderie. 4. Arrange to participate in a 🌎 community service project 🌎 to inspire a sense of shared purpose. 5. Host a 🥘 cooking class 🥘 to foster teamwork and creativity while also encouraging casual conversation and connection. 6. Organize a ❓ trivia night ❓ to rustle up some friendly competition. 7. Schedule a 🎨 creative workshop 🎨 such as painting or pottery to help employees get to know each other on a different level. #TeamBonding #TogetherWeWin #success #learninganddevelopment
