It is a dream come true; I know it sounds like a shallow soundbite, but it is anything but… 6 years ago I had such a dream. The dream of patients being in control of their data, being able to measure how they are doing in a way that is understood by healthcare providers and being able to be to part of any decision that affects their lives. Not out of pity or compassion; but because they have the data and the evidence to prove their point. 6 years ago the #EHDS was not even at the horizon; however there is a tremendous opportunity for synergies now. The Pan-European Observatory can serve as a forum to achieve consensus on what can be measured digitally in routine care in order to improve care and fuel the EHDS with standardized outcome data. At the same time, the data access framework developed through the H2O project offers a blueprint on how to manage data by relying on the Patient Agreement. H2O through the leadership of the Pan-European Health Outcomes Observatory can pave the way on how to build the EHDS on the foundation of 'Data Trusts' and multi-stakeholder consensus on what to measure and how.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of joining other life science industry representatives in an important discussion with Sweden's ministers for Healthcare, Social Affairs and Public Health, Business and Industry, and the state secretary for Education. Our focus was on how to enhance clinical trials, better implement innovations, and increase Sweden's competitiveness as a leading life science nation. Sweden has seen a decline in industry-sponsored clinical trials, and urgent action is needed to reverse this trend. We must remain at the forefront of clinical research and continue to develop breakthrough medicines for patients in Sweden and beyond. Previous government inquiries have suggested concrete solutions, such as a national partnership platform for clinical trials, based on successful models like Trial Nation in Denmark. It's time to turn the good dialogue and ideas into concrete actions. At Novartis, we're excited to be a partner on this journey and help put Sweden back where it belongs, as a research-based, leading life science nation. Update from HAEi's Global Operations 🙌 In the latest issue of Global Perspectives, HAEi's Executive Vice President Global Operations and Chief Compliance Officer, Jørn Schultz-Boysen, gives us an update about the efforts that go into planning and executing HAEi's regional conferences, the 2024 HAEi Regional Conference Americas concluding the first round of three regional conferences, and he says: "It is incredibly satisfying to gather 1500 patients/caregivers, healthcare professionals, and pharma representatives to make a real difference. The impact of the three conferences can be read in the survey feedback. The motivation every single participant took home was to continue the fight to raise awareness of HAE and improve the lives of people with HAE. And this is the mission for many more people than could participate in the conferences." It was truly an honor to participate in the "LA RICERCA CLINICA IN ITALIA COME RISORSA PER IL PAESE" event alongside esteemed figures such as Gustavo Galmozzi, Giovanni Apolone, Massimo Lombardo and Guido Bertolaso. The discussions held during the event shed light on the crucial collaboration between various entities in the healthcare sector. One key takeaway from the event was the emphasis on fostering collaboration between organizations like #FIASO and #Farmindustria. This collaboration plays a pivotal role in advancing research and innovation in the healthcare industry. As we move forward, it's essential to recognize the importance of creating a cohesive "sistema Paese" dedicated to the success of patient health and the discovery of innovative drugs. The insights shared during the event underscored the significance of public-private partnerships in driving progress in the life sciences sector. By bringing together stakeholders from both sectors, we can harness collective expertise and resources to address the complex challenges facing healthcare today. I am particularly encouraged by the initiatives outlined for 2024 by #FIASO and #Farmindustria, especially those focusing on training in clinical research and digital transformation. These efforts are essential for equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and tools to navigate an increasingly complex landscape. A big thanks to Sergio Scaccabarozzi who chaired a session dedicated to the EU regulation and represented #Arithmos in this valuable event.

Innovation Hub Austria? Rapid patient access to innovative medicines and security of supply I now added a „?“ to the above title of the high-profile panel discussion at the 14th #ÖGWK congress. Political decisions and legislative developments on EU level and here in Austria aim to improve these two important topics, patient access and security of supply. Any changes will directly impact patients, health care systems and competitiveness of LifeSciences. My conclusion: The understanding of the planned reforms, particularly our local reform, differ quite a bit. The importance of speed and the value of innovation are easily forgotten. But patients with severe diseases don‘t have time to wait. Speed in getting the best medical treatment is today a success factor of Austria as an attractive location for Life Sciences and medical research. Let‘s work together on the reforms so they ensure rapid access to the best medicines for patients and allow Austria to continue to take a leading role in medical innovation. There is still work to be done. Yesterday marked a major milestone for patients needing access to novel, high-cost medicines across Europe & Central Asia. Our WHO Regional Office for Europe Novel Medicines Platform (NMP) kicked off in Prague with the first meeting of its working group on #solidarity, hosted by Czech Minister of Health Jakub Dvořáček. At the press conference following the launch, I highlighted the crucial importance of this initiative in making sure people can access the medicines they need—regardless of their costs. To find long-term sustainable solutions, we need to involve all stakeholders in the process. And that’s exactly what our #WHONMP will do, convened by WHO/Europe in a safe and neutral platform. Our path forward will see us focus on four key tracks: ✅Transparency: Striving for clarity in processes and information flow. ✅ Solidarity: Building a community of support through joint efforts. ✅ Sustainability: Ensuring healthcare innovations are sustainable and accessible. ✅ Antimicrobial Resistance: Pioneering solutions for sustainable innovation in the face of resistance. There is no limit to the power of #collaboration. Any challenge can be overcome if we work together, guided by solidarity, to advance and protect people’s health. HLTH Europe 2024: A Thriving Hub for European Healthcare (with a Norwegian Twist!) HLTH Europe 2024 wrapped up a highly successful first year, solidifying its position as a central meeting point for the European healthcare ecosystem. Over 3,400 attendees, including health systems/providers, health tech companies from across the globe, pharmaceutical giants, investors, and support networks, convened in Amsterdam for a packed program of conferences, networking events, and presentations. The conference boasted a truly international reach, with organizations from over 50 countries participating. This year, Norway was well-represented by innovative companies like Convene, Mode Sensors, Inform Life, Whereby, Deepinsight, DIPS, Kernel, and Myworkout. The pan-European focus and the energy from attendees set the stage for future growth, leaving many excited about the upcoming HLTH USA conference and the prospect of HLTH Europe becoming an annual event. Very inspiring discussion at the pharma.be Clinical Trial Forum on Tuesday! The event centred on "Advancing Clinical Research in Belgium: Embracing Diversity & Equity in Clinical Trials", and our General Manager Marie-José Borst was a guest speaker at the panel discussion. ⬇️ 🔈"At Roche, we advocate for the improvement of clinical trial recruitment, by stimulating efforts to increase clinical trial awareness such as the clinicaltrial.be platform and accelerating approval timelines, within the current regulatory framework." She highlighted Belgium's strong track record in clinical trials and the recent challenges. ➡️ The attractiveness of 🇧🇪 as a trial location is driven by expertise in health, top research centers, existing real-life experience of investigators and short approval timelines - not to mention also that Belgium has particularly developed expertise in phase 1 trials. ❌ However, the new EU regulation introduced a harmonised approval process with fixed timelines for all European countries. This means that Belgium loses the advantage of having quick start-up timelines, which was always our standout advantage. As an innovative company, Roche cares about the importance of clinical trials for the healthcare system.
