As October begins, we embrace Black History Month, a time to honor the profound contributions and resilience of the Black community✊🏾 It's a moment to pay tribute to individuals who've paved the way for social progress, civil rights, and cultural enrichment. Let's use this month as a platform to amplify the voices and experiences of Black individuals today. It's a time to engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering understanding and empathy ❤️. By acknowledging and addressing systemic racism and social injustice, we take the first steps towards positive change. Beyond awareness, let's take tangible actions: support Black-owned businesses 💼, contribute to organizations advocating for racial equality, and engage in community initiatives that promote unity. Together, we can build a society where diversity is not only recognized but celebrated, where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive. #InclusiveGroup #BlackHistoryMonth #CelebrateBlackExcellence #UniteForChange Image Description: An image displaying a vibrant design for Black History Month, featuring the text 'BLACK HISTORY MONTH' in uppercase letters along with the dates 'October 1 - October 31.' "I explain why black women, sitting at the crossroads of race and gender, of hyper visibility and invisibility, of being simultaneously too little and too much, are often left on the fringes." Akima Paul Lambert I encourage you to take the time today to read the entirety of this amazing post by Akima Paul Lambert and ask yourself how committed you are to changing this sad but true, reality for so many Black women. ********** Imagine being told the following: When you grow up- You will do the same job as other men and women but will earn 70p for every £1 on average. You will make up 7 per cent of the labour force in London but will be near invisible in senior leadership. You will have the lowest probability of being a top earner. You will be 50 per cent more likely to leave your job because of inequality. You will have a greater likelihood of suffering multimorbidities- depression, anxiety, asthma, chronic pain, diabetes and lupus. You will be four times more likely to die from violence than other women. If you decide to give birth, your maternal mortality rate, will however, be four times higher. The above is chilling but these are all real life statistics from real life peer reviewed research. More important, it is the real life reality each day for Black Women... #blackwomenempowerment #radicalreinvention #blackwomenattorneys #flawedmasterpiece #findingjoyinthejourney

Each year, around this time, so many question the need for a special celebration of Black History Month. Don’t we have enough of “these months”? What’s so special about black history? Shouldn’t it be integrated into curricula, isn’t the place for it in museums? I say to those who question the “why” that the importance of learning black history is a reconnaissance that these statistics did not magically appear. I explain why black women, sitting at the crossroads of race and gender, of hyper visibility and invisibility, of being simultaneously too little and too much, are often left on the fringes. I say why I am especially glad that this years theme for Black History Month: Saluting our Sisters has been chosen, as a reminder of these unique challenges and a nod to those who who confront and overcome them. I do not have it in me to do a #blacksquares series like I did last year for BHM 😮💨but in commemoration and commiseration, over the course of this month I will be seeking to share unique perspectives from lesser heard female black voices, places and spaces. 🖤

On this 11th day of Black History Month, I wanted to talk about what it means to honor Black History Month by reflecting on our actions beyond a single event or social media post. It's crucial to acknowledge that real allyship requires an ongoing commitment and action. Consider the systemic inequalities Black people face daily, such as the wage gap and wealth disparity. Let's amplify Black voices, advocate for equitable treatment in the workplace, and actively support initiatives that promote economic empowerment within the Black community. It's essential to recognize the multiple layers of discrimination Black individuals experience, including those based on gender, disability, and social class. By acknowledging these intersecting identities, we can better understand and address the unique challenges faced. Create inclusive spaces where Black colleagues feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment or backlash. Challenge harmful behaviors like white fragility and gaslighting, and actively listen to Black perspectives with empathy and respect. Let's commit to more tangible actions this month and year-round, such as supporting Black-owned businesses continually, advocating for equitable policies, and speaking out against racism in all its forms. Being an accomplice requires consistent effort and a willingness to use your power and privilege, at a risk to yourself for what is right, not just during Black History Month, but every day. I know I’m missing a lot. What additional steps would you suggest to folks looking to honor Black History Month 365? #BlackHistoryMonth #Reflections #Equity #EquityInTheWorkPlace

🎉 Happy Juneteenth! 🎉 Today, we celebrate freedom, equality, and the profound contributions of Black Americans to our nation's history. 🌟 Why Juneteenth Matters: - Freedom Realized: Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. - Reflection and Celebration: It's a day to reflect on Black Americans' struggles and victories and celebrate the vibrant culture and enduring spirit of the Black community. - Continued Advocacy: Juneteenth reminds us that the fight for justice and equality is ongoing. It's a day to renew our commitment to dismantling systemic racism and promoting equity. 🗣️ Uplifting Black Voices: - Amplify Stories: Elevating Black voices helps share the rich, diverse narratives often overlooked in mainstream discussions. - Support Black Excellence: Whether in business, the arts, education, or leadership, recognizing and supporting Black talent drives social and economic progress. - Educate and Learn: Engage with literature, art, and history from Black perspectives to broaden understanding and appreciation of Black experiences.
