We are excited to share the release of an article called, "Integrating vocational supports into a transition clinic: A Pilot Program." It was co-authored by COEF team members Dr. Cordelia Robinson Rosenberg and Melanie Honsbruch. The article discusses GUIDDANCE, a project aimed at learning more about how employment impacts health in children and young adults with I/DD. "The development of the intervention involved a crucial partnership with the Colorado Office of Employment First (COEF). This collaboration ensured that the intervention was grounded in the principles of Employment First, a philosophy advocating for the prioritization of competitive integrated employment (CIE) in the lives of people with disabilities. States are increasingly committing to the Employment First initiative, which recognizes CIE as the only acceptable employment goal for individuals with disabilities." 🌍 Deep Dive into Global Developmental Delay (GDD)🌍 📚 What is GDD? GDD is a significant delay in two or more developmental domains in children: cognitive, motor, speech/language, social-emotional, and activities of daily living. It signals the need for further evaluation and support. 🔎 Signs and Symptoms: - Language & Motor Milestones: Delays in speaking, sitting, or walking. - Social Skills: Difficulties in interactions or forming relationships. - Learning Challenges: Struggles with new skills or applying basic ones. - Self-Care: Issues with age-appropriate self-care tasks. 🕒 Which Age Does It Affect? GDD is identified in young children, typically between infancy and preschool years (0-5 years). Early detection is key to effective support. 💡 Management and Control Strategies: - Early Intervention: Tailored therapies (speech, occupational, physical) can significantly improve outcomes. - Educational Support: Programs and resources designed for the child's unique learning needs. -Family and Caregiver Support: Counseling and resources to create a nurturing environment. - Consistent Monitoring: Regular assessments to tailor interventions as the child develops. 🤝 Let’s Act Together! Raise Awareness📣: Share knowledge about GDD in your networks. Support Policies✊: Advocate for inclusive and supportive policies. -Community Engagement🌐: Join or support programs aiding children with GDD and their families. #GlobalDevelopmentalDelay #EarlyIntervention #Awareness #CommunitySupport #Inclusion

We received 62 applications for our 24-25 special education teacher cohort in the first 8 hours of Thrive Therapies Group 's announcement. 100% licensed/certified. 98% with 2+ years experience. This is not a small number. If we stopped here (which we won't 💪 ), we could fill 15% of the current vacancies in TN and 5% in TX, serving approx 1,000 students with disabilities. 🤓 What this tells me: Expert practitioners who are specialized and highly trained want to stay in this messy, hard, soul-satisfying and important work. Let's re-vision the structure of the role to make this possible. Cue the brainpower of Liz Malugen and Stefanie Bundy. #specialeducation #teachers #inclusion #disabilities #education #opportunity #tnteachers #txteachers
