Today, we share the story of our recent Sentinel deployment in the Peruvian Amazon. In collaboration with Conservación Amazónica - ACCA, we deployed a constellation of Sentinel devices in the Los Amigos Biological Station in the Madre de Dios region. This marks one of our most significant and impactful deployments yet. Join us on this journey as we, together with local park rangers and researchers, navigate the challenges of introducing cutting-edge wildlife technology into the heart of the rainforest. Sentinel transforms wildlife monitoring tools — like trail cameras and acoustic recorders — with revolutionary and intuitive AI technology, processing environmental data in near real-time as it’s collected. Through the use of onboard AI, Sentinel can monitor and send alerts on invasive species, wildlife activity, abundance, zoonotic diseases, and changes in animal behavior. By working through satellite, LoRa, and cellular networks, Sentinel enables rapid response to biodiversity-related threats. Watch the story: https://lnkd.in/eBKZBAJU

Knowing where species are and how their populations are faring is essential to conservation. A quarter of all assessed species are threatened with extinction, and we need to act quickly to prevent any more species from going extinct. But studying animals in the wild has traditionally been a labour-intensive endeavour. Ecologists spend months in the field collecting data, often in difficult or uncomfortable conditions. Camera traps have become an essential tool for researchers, providing repeated samples of the presence and absence of a species that can be used to inform population counts, behaviour analysis, and conservation planning. Thousands of images can be collected each field trip, and reviewing them takes time. Conservation International’s Wildlife Insights fuses machine learning and artificial intelligence to automate species identification within camera trap images, connecting the "big data" of wildlife monitoring to decision-makers worldwide. It provides the data you’d need to decide which places and species most urgently need protection. The open-access platform also enables researchers to collaborate and share their knowledge with others working towards the same goals. Learn how we helped build the platform and discover its full potential. Link in the comments. #wildlife #AI #opendata #speciesconservation
