"It's time for Malaysia and the European Union to establish a Free Trade Agreement." Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. During his ceremonial address at the 101st Ostasiatisches Liebesmahl held at Hamburg City Hall, the Prime Minister emphasized the potential benefits of such an agreement, asserting that Europe could capitalize on Malaysia's position as a gateway to Asia. Attended by over 300 high-ranking guests, the Ostasiatisches Liebesmahl stands as one of the most significant events commemorating Germany's relationship with Asia. A Free Trade Agreement with Malaysia would enable Europe to take advantage of open market policies facilitated by existing agreements such as the ASEAN FTA, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. Highlighting Malaysia's readiness for collaboration, innovation, and participation in high-quality ventures that align with national goals and global responsibilities, the Prime Minister underscored that Malaysia is not merely open for business but also eager to engage in meaningful partnerships. #malaysia #freetradeagreement #freetrade #malaysian #malaysians #germany #europeanunion #europe #trade

Over the past five years (2018-2022), Singapore has held the title of the Southeast Asian country with the highest trade volume with European countries. Here's a closer look at the total trade volume between the EU and some major Southeast Asian nations during this period: * Singapore: €540.5 billion * Vietnam: €207.5 billion * Malaysia: €260.7 billion * Thailand: €280.3 billion * Indonesia: €156.5 billion * Philippines: €82.9 billion Singapore's dominance can be attributed to several factors: * Free trade agreements: Singapore has established Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the EU, granting preferential access to European markets for its exports. * Strong financial hub: Singapore serves as a key financial hub in Southeast Asia, attracting European investments and facilitating trade flows. * Diversified economy: Singapore boasts a diversified economy, exporting a wide range of goods and services to Europe, including electronics, machinery, and chemicals. * Efficient logistics: Singapore possesses a well-developed transport and logistics infrastructure, streamlining trade movements with Europe. While Singapore leads the pack, other Southeast Asian nations are also experiencing growing trade volumes with Europe.
