Nowadays the ‘directors of marketing’ ask interns “how to make reels”, “what’s the difference between a reel and a story?”, “why didn’t we achieve 1,000 followers in a month?” ☺️🥰😊 Please test your directors. A $16.55/hr intern can outperform $60/hour director these days. Reading and Researching to adapt to new marketing needs is fundamental. It really doesn’t matter how many years you’ve put in the industry if you can’t stay afloat the latest trends and algorithms. #BitterTruth

My first marketing job was back in LA in 2010. I interned for a cool product placement agency a few minutes from my house. Yes, we worked with major studios and put on big brand events, but here’s what I remember most: - 🎬 Scouring books & scripts, looking for placement opportunities (“Hey Robin - have you heard of The Hunger Games? Not sure, but it seems like it might go somewhere…”). - 🎮 Trying to figure out what a virtual good was and how anyone could actually charge, let alone MAKE, real money on a branded item in a video game. #nftbeforenft - ❤️ The kindness and mentorship from Devery Holmes and the entire team at Spark Alliance Marketing. I was young, naive, and had no idea what it took to be a good marketer, let alone a real working “adult.” I’ll never forget sitting down at my manager’s gigantic corner desk, pondering what my future could hold. She didn’t ask me what I had learned in school or to solve a case study. She asked what I liked to do and what kind of life I wanted to lead. Between fielding fire drill phone calls and questions from major film studios, Devery took the time to to tell me about her family. She shared the triumphs and hardships of being the president of her own company, and how she balanced work with making time for her community and passions. Each day she showed me how to truly support a team (even the teeny college intern), build an inclusive environment, and get good work done. I had no idea then, but this would become the foundation for my leadership style. It’s been almost 15 years, but those lessons are still fresh in my mind. I’m eternally grateful to have had such an exemplary leader to look up to, and hope that I have brought even a smidge of that magic to my teams and advisory companies across the country. Hello LinkedIn Family, DRUMROLL ANNOUNCEMENT🥁 It's been 70 days since i streamlined my career to my preferred niche, will probably write another post on why i choose this niche but back to this post. Happy, intrigued, scared, curious, anxious, grateful are definitely the top of the emotions i have felt in these past days. It feels like being in high school again, you are not completely stupid but still stupid because everything feels so swamped, confusing and a lot to take in. I recently started an internship role at Gamned! as a programmatic media trader, i couldn't have asked for a better company & team to start and build my foundation in programmatic, they are the absolute best. Back to why i decided to write this post, i just thought to document my beginning phase in programmatic but i didn't see myself worthy enough to do this but a recent 1 on 1 session with my mentor jogged my brain back to reality😅. This post is to achieve two objectives, help others who would love to switch or learn about the programmatic space (P.S there are very few women in this field), know what the journey is like, the steps to take in other to make the journey less frustating and long. Also to remind myself of my beginning in the next maybe 5yrs. So watch out for this space to learn one or two things about programmatic advertising, daily life of a programmatic media trader, players & other interesting topics in the industry. P.S I wrote this post at my 35th day 😉 BUT programmatic life happened lol got too busy. Everything from content creators, social, production, graphics, to live tweeting sports and everything in between can find a role on a viceroy team. If your school has an active account, find a platform they could be better on and how you can make that happen. Does your school not have an account? Pitch why you are the best person to start it. (I have nothing to do with hiring for schools anymore)

The best creative professionals I know all have one thing in common. They know how to pick their battles. Clients say 'no'. A lot. A novice Creative folds like a soggy napkin. They hear rejection and anxiety takes over. They'll do anything to keep the client happy. Even if it means abandoning the better idea. Experienced Creatives are built different. 1. They know what to push back on. 2. They know when to push back. 3. They know how to push back. And guess what... Your client won't be pissed. Your client will appreciate you for it. Because you were hired for your expertise. But if you constantly give in, you're not a strategic partner. You're a glorified intern that will get dropped in 6 months. The next time your client says 'no' to a great idea: • Have the conviction to back what you believe will work. • Have the confidence in yourself to explain why. • Have the belief in your expertise to execute. You're an expert. Not an intern. Act like it.

Just a few days ago, I wrapped up my 4-month Summer Internship at King within the Candy Crush Soda’s Marketing team and well, it was an insanely good one! ✨   Here are a few of my highlights across 4 months: ✨ Made my very first attempt at copywriting and together with my Live Marketing Manager, published multiple push notifications for Candy Crush Soda, which were viewed by 10+ million daily active users! ✨ Utilised CRM tools and collaborated with my manager and the Community team to create a Community Contest, attracting 1.3 million impression with a click rate of almost 30%. ✨ Managed a merchandising project, from pricing comparison to material testing – glad that everyone loves our surfing bear stickers. ✨ Drafted creative briefs for our seasonal assets to the in-house Marketing Studio, ensuring all assets are delivered before deadlines. ✨ Represented King at Bright Network’s Women in TEC conference and answered students’ questions about King and my internship experience. ✨ Witnessed the monumental Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King and briefly became a Microsofter(?) for 2 weeks! ✨ Made so many memories with my team – those that I will cherish for a long time! Transitioning from full-time education to full-time working has been a remarkable experience. Joining King introduced me to a culture of innovation, creativity, and a shared passion for crafting immersive gaming experiences that bring joy to players worldwide. It's a privilege to be part of a team known for crafting some of the most iconic and engaging games in the industry. 🌟   I’m deeply grateful for my Soda Marketing team for their unwavering support and the wonderful memories we have created. I couldn't have done this without you guys 💖   To everyone else who has been part of this journey – the HR, Workplace Management, IT, Finance, my fellow interns – your steadfast support and encouragement mean the world to me.   Reflecting on this journey, I'm reminded that growth doesn't happen in isolation. It's about embracing new challenges, harnessing opportunities, and continually evolving to become the best version of ourselves. I would have never imagined myself to work in gaming, and here I am, 4 months later, learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. As I look ahead, I'm excited to continue learning and being open to as many opportunities as possible.   My next step? I am starting as an Account Executive at Iris – back to the advertising world!
