Many #SaaSproviders are looking for ways to strengthen their bottom line, and finding ways to increase #integratedpayments revenue is a shrewd path to growth. In this article, we provide five ways you can maximize the #paymentsrevenue you earn through your software.

"Am I leaving money on the table?" I hear this question from software companies when comparing pricing from multiple payment providers. The answer is usually "yes", but the money is rarely where people think it is. Here are the unexpected places that software companies leave money on the table when choosing an embedded payments provider: 1️⃣ Interchange passthrough. Especially in B2B payments the difference between optimized interchange and unoptimized interchange can easily be 20-30 bps. If you choose a provider that doesn't have the tech and expertise to effectively optimize interchange, this is money left on the table. 2️⃣ Premium pricing. Comprehensive end-to-end solutions for specific verticals can easily charge 3.2%, 3.5%, 3.9% or more. Compared the 2.9% we expect from "commodity" payment providers, this is an extra 30-100 bps. In order to fetch these prices, software companies need to provide a high-quality payments experience that actually solves operational problems for the merchant. In other words, the opportunity cost of inaccurate deposit reports or missing metadata is 30-100 bps or more. 3️⃣ Adoption. All other things equal, would you rather earn 75 bps on $50M/yr processing volume or 75 bps $500M/yr? A payment provider who's primary focus is cutting costs won't help you get from $50M/yr to $500M/yr, and the opportunity cost is about $3.7M/yr in payments revenue. What about payment provider fees? Assuming we're comparing managed payfac providers, the difference between providers is often 10 bps or less. It might look like 20 bps at first, but once you account for rev shares and hidden fees, it's usually less. The opportunity cost of choosing a provider who doesn't optimize interchange passthrough, create a winning payment experience, and help drive adoption could be 10x that. Want more?
