We believe the lovely lot that work here should be able to bring their best and most natural selves to work. Which is why a big focus for us this year has been on intersectionality. Whether it's gender, race, class, religion, or sexual orientation, these things shape us into the people we are today. But just because we are similar in one way, doesn’t mean we have the same experiences overall. It's important to chat about and celebrate those differences to make sure we don't bundle everyone together. Our Proud Bunch, our LGBTQIAplus affinity group, are the legends leading the conversation about our different experiences with all our other affinity groups. So for this year’s Pride Month, we’ve been waving both well known and less recognised flags in our windows. Like the diversity flag, which is there to represent LGBTQIAplus people of colour, and the disability pride flag, for gay and queer people with disabilities or who are neurodiverse. We’ve hung them proudly to show that everyone is welcome and supported at innocent. We know we’re not the experts. We wanted to talk about intersectionality because we want the people that work here, and even those that don’t, to feel able to be their best natural self. We loved seeing London come to life this weekend for Pride, Happy Pride, you lot.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈🏳️🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it is important to recognize and embrace acceptance, equality, and inclusion as cornerstones of mental health. Every individual deserves to be accepted for who they are, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. By promoting acceptance, we create a safe and supportive environment for everyone, which is crucial for maintaining good mental health. Mental health is a basic human right. It is essential that we advocate for equal access to mental health services and support for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. While progress has been made, it is crucial to acknowledge the immense challenges that the LGBTQ+ community still faces. Discrimination, stigma, and barriers to healthcare can significantly impact mental well-being. By raising awareness and working towards equal rights and opportunities, we can create a society that prioritizes mental health for all. Yoga principles align with advocating for marginalized communities. The principles of compassion, empathy, and non-judgment can guide us in promoting acceptance and equality. By practicing yoga, we cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness, which can help us recognize and challenge our own biases. We can use our yoga practice as a tool to sustain and propel us into action for social justice. By embracing the values of inclusivity and respect, we contribute to creating a more just and equitable world. Celebrate the progress we have made, while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done. Together, let's stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and continue to advocate for acceptance, equality, and inclusion.

We celebrate diversity every month, but for all of April, we would like for you to join us as we honor Diversity Month and highlight a few of those who have helped with this journey from our very own Arkansas community. “It is a time to recognize and understand our differences, be it gender, race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, and other factors, while honoring the common essence of humanity. By appreciating our similarities and differences, the month aims to get people to foster a deeper understanding of others, regardless of who they are, what they are, or how they live.” #ARlegal #DiversityMonth #DiversityMonth2024 #Inclusion #Equity #Equality #Community #JusticeForAll #ArkansasCommunity #DiversityMatters #RepresentationMatters #InclusionMatters #Disability #HumanRights #DisabilityAwareness

This past Sunday marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities 🤝,#IDPWD, an important date calling attention to the economic rights and inclusion of those with disabilities in our communities. There is still progress needed to ensure persons with disabilities have adequate representation and equitable opportunities - including in procurement programs. I'm proud that last year, the California Public Utilities Commission's General Order 156 took landmark steps in California to recognize disabled-owned businesses among formally certified enterprise groups targeted for supplier diversity participation. 👏 At the California LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, we are aligned on the importance of acknowledging persons with disabilities 🏳️🌈✊ in building an equitable economy where all certified diverse businesses can thrive. As part of our commitment to inclusion, we welcome partnerships with certified disabled-owned enterprises. 🤝 Our goal is driving real economic impact for California's multiplicity of diversity - not only supporting the #LGBTQbusiness community, but also collaborating across intersections with other underrepresented groups. Please reach out if you would like to connect on how we can accomplish more together. #inclusion #diversity #equity #procurement #accessibilitymatters

🌈 Pride Allyship: Fostering Inclusion and Support 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month this June, let’s recognise the vital role allies play in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. Effective allyship goes beyond mere labels; it’s about meaningful actions. Here are three key components to be a good ally: Acceptance: Embrace diversity. Accept individuals for who they are, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Show empathy and understanding. Humility: Recognise that you don’t know everything. Be open to learning and unlearning. Listen to LGBTQIA+ voices and experiences without assuming you have all the answers. Action: Advocate actively. Speak out against discrimination, support others in sharing their stories, and educate yourself about the invisible barriers faced by your LGBTQIA+ peers. But remember, true allyship extends beyond public spaces. It’s about standing up for the community even when they’re not in the room. Be their voice, challenge stereotypes, and create safe spaces everywhere you go. #PrideAllyship #InclusionMatters #DEI

Pride: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Scientists #happypridemonth Here are some things you can do to celebrate Pride and/or increase your allyship to LGBTQIA2-S communities: 📚 Learn more about LGBTQIA2-S history and lived experiences, including the stories of community leaders like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. 🤲 Uplift the stories of LGBTQIA2-S community members around you – including your own, if you identify as part of the community and have mutually supportive and safe spaces to do so. 🌍 Learn about the importance of pronouns. Add your pronouns to your email signature, display your name on virtual platforms like MS Teams or Zoom, and business cards. 📣 If you are a direct service provider, you can practice introducing yourself with your pronouns, and ask all your clients which pronouns they use when meeting someone for the first time. This sends a powerful message that you acknowledge and respect diverse gender identities. 💻 Seek out further education about LGBTQIA2-S healthcare. There are resources within LACDMH and our broader L.A. County mental health community to help with this. The Wellbeing4LA Learning Center also has several resources to help you improve your practice with LGBTQIA2-S communities. 🌈 Use Pride-themed virtual backgrounds on MS Teams, Zoom, and other videoconferencing platforms. 🤦♀️ Recognize and challenge transphobic, biphobic, and homophobic bias and discrimination, including microaggressions in professional and personal environments.

Something to focus on as we close out #Pride Month: Health and Wellness. Are you providing resources and support for LGBTQ+ mental health, including access to counseling services? How about inclusive health benefits? It's important to ensure that health benefits cover the needs of LGBTQ+ employees, including transition-related care.

🌈 July is Pride disability month, a time to celebrate and support the intersection of the LGBTQ+ and disabled communities. As we continue to strive for inclusion and equality, it's essential to recognize the unique challenges faced by individuals who belong to both of these diverse groups. Here's how we can support this cause: Educate Yourself: Understanding the experiences and challenges of LGBTQ+ individuals with disabilities is the first step. Learn about the history, struggles, and triumphs of this community. Amplify Voices: Use your platform to amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ disabled individuals. Share their stories, support their work, and ensure their perspectives are included in conversations about inclusion and diversity. Promote Accessibility: Advocate for and implement inclusive practices in your workplace and community. Ensure that events, online content, and physical spaces are accessible to everyone. Support Inclusive Organizations: Donate to or volunteer with organizations that support LGBTQ+ and disabled communities. These organizations are vital in providing resources, advocacy, and support. Celebrate Diversity: Recognize and celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals with disabilities. Highlight their achievements and ensure they receive the recognition they deserve. Be an Ally: Stand up against discrimination and prejudice. Being a supportive ally involves listening, learning, and taking action to promote equality and justice. Let's make this Pride disability month a time of learning, action, and celebration. Together, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of their identity or abilities, is valued and included. 🌟 #PrideDisabilityMonth #Inclusion #Diversity #Accessibility #LGBTQ #DisabilityRights #Allyship #SupportEquality #CelebrateDiversity #DigitalHealth #eNavvi #MedTech #HealthTech

"It's never too late to start being yourself." 🌈 Adam, one of our colleagues, explains why Pride is important: "Most of the LGBT community know what it’s like to hide their sexuality at work. You start off with a simple lie, and before you know it, you’re a completely made-up person. You have a partner of the opposite sex, you may even have made-up kids and fake holidays, parties, and emergencies. Or you keep quiet and hope colleagues don’t pry into your life too much. "How could anyone live like that? People do, every working day of the week. "That’s why it’s so important for organisations to promote equality and diversity in the workplace, ensuring staff who identify as LGBTQ feel comfortable enough to be themselves. People perform better when they can be themselves, and you’ll have a happier workforce. "We want equality for all, and we’ll keep doing Pride marches until we achieve that. It’s not just about acceptance without fear of homophobic attacks and hate crime, but about having the exact same rights everyone else takes for granted. "I don’t want to be treated specially; I just want to be treated like everyone else." Thanks to the support of Wates Group and United Living Group, Wolverhampton Homes is a proud sponsor of Wolverhampton Pride 2024.
