It used to be that if you wanted to avoid controversy and make polite conversation you could always just talk about the weather. No longer. This February just gone has been the warmest on record. And we know why. Baroness Brown, chair of of the Climate Change Committee's subcommittee on adaptation, reports that 'the evidence of the damage from climate change has never been clearer, but the UK’s current approach to adaptation is not working'. It's obvious that what is lacking is a long-term, joined-up vision and plan. Breaking: As expected the SEC backed off mandating that board directors disclose their climate expertise, much as they did with the cybersecurity rule last year. Hat tip Agenda: "Several components of the proposed rule were scrapped in the final version, including the requirements for companies to disclose material Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions data and to describe board directors' climate expertise (although there is a requirement to identify, if applicable, any board committees or subcommittees responsible for climate risk oversight)." #corporategovernance #boardsofdirectors

How we talk about climate change matters a lot to whether people take action, and the message needs to be tailored to the audience. «Some messages produce different results in different countries. This message, which appeals to the recipient’s sense of knowledge, increased support for climate measures in Romania by 9 per cent. In Canada, however, it reduced support by 5 per cent.» «KNOWLEDGE: “99% of climate experts believe the planet is getting warmer and that climate change is primarily due to human activity”. “Writing a letter to future generations is most effective in increasing political support for climate measures, and in increasing the belief that climate change is a problem. The second most effective measure is to say that almost all climate experts agree,” says Christian Klöckner, a professor at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)’s Department of Psychology. «Dire warnings and writing a letter to your future self were the least effective measures in Norway.» «Legislators and campaigners must adapt their messaging to the public.» https://lnkd.in/eN7krHvn
