Made by Engineers: Sustainable Infrastructure and Urban Development A new series of talks showcasing where engineering meets enterprise. IMechE is bringing engineering, finance, research and policy together to accelerate the impact of engineers in our communities. Through a UK-wide series of events, each with a different theme, we hope to enable engineers to meet people from other industries that can help make their ideas a reality. The series aims to facilitate networking, foster idea sharing, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship by holding informal events where early career engineers can showcase themselves as innovative thought leaders and various sectors can come together to share expertise. Join us in London to hear fresh ideas from engineers on sustainable infrastructure and urban development! We'll first hear from our CEO Dr Alice Bunn OBE FIMechE FRAeS CEng as well as a guest speaker (TBA) before our early career engineers pitch their innovative ideas, followed by a drinks/networking reception. It is free and the venue is fully accessible. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eRRiyFwM #Engineering #IMechE #networking #earlycareer

Thrilled to share that our recent paper, "The impact of digital prefabrication on the construction industry: A systematic review," has been successfully published in the CONVR23 conference in Florence, Italy. 🏗️🌐 Special thanks to my fantastic colleagues Emmanuel Itodo Daniel and Louis Gyoh for their invaluable contributions and support throughout this research journey. 🔍 Abstract: The study dives into the transformative potential of Digital Fabrication (Dfab) technologies in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. We address critical questions, exploring why Dfab is essential, its current applications, and how it positively impacts the construction sector. Key Findings: ✅ Revolutionizing construction with freeform architecture. ✅ Cost reduction, minimizing material waste, and enhancing worker safety. However, challenges like high costs and a digital skills gap in the industry highlight the need for further research. 🔗 Read the full paper on ResearchGate: [Link to Paper](https://lnkd.in/eFexk7ec) Also, you can download it at: https://lnkd.in/e-P2TYSQ. There’s a lot for high school students to weigh up when choosing a career path 👣 But after the latest SPPEEx - South Pacific Professional Engineering Excellence careers expo, we reckon our team have tipped the scales in favour of science, technology, engineering or maths related roles. Of course, we're slightly biased. Our hands-on aqualibrium activity (that's it at the bottom) may have played a part in this. Those game enough to take part had to build a network of pipes that successfully transported water to different areas on the grid. Think of it as a mini and simplified version of Auckland's water network. But the real star of the show was the team of volunteers who ran our stall ⭐ A big thank you to Maria Eliza, Ameera Danford, Tina McIntosh and Hinewai Hosford for making time to educate and inspire the next generation. And, while we're doing shout-outs, our design delivery manager Sifa Pole deserves one. As a keynote speaker he shared his personal story of why he become an engineer. And, besides talking to our team about how Watercare fits into the engineering world, the aspiring engineers got the chance to rub shoulders with our mates at Beca, Fletcher Building, Tonkin + Taylor and hear about the exciting opportunities to tap into. Well done to our team for tipping the scales in our favour. We'll put the welcome mat out for all aspiring engineers 👍 #infrastructure #engineering #engineers #WaterIndustry #water #careers #education #learning #Teamwork #team #growth #learn #stem #science #expo #exhibition

Within the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, students and academics who are involved in teaching and research that relate to the various stages of a construction project are developing a transdisciplinary mindset. This transformation of traditional practices is leading to a radical shift in higher education that is equipping graduates with the skills they need when they enter the world of work. Members of the departments of Architecture and Civil Engineering have embarked on an innovative approach to built environment education. This approach achieved international recognition for its impact, scalability and sustainability when it received the Quanser Global Sustainability Award for 2023. It was the only shortlisted project from Africa. Part four of our four Micro-Credential offering under our Innovative Materials for Industry 4.0, 30 credit, level 9 programme. Material Selection in Sustainable Engineering - 5 week, level 9, micro credential! Yes! 5 weeks! 📢 2-4 hours a week, fully online. What will this level 9, 5 credit micro-credential do for me you ask? Sustainable engineering design is about doing the right thing for the planet. In addition, the environmental impact of every manufacturing process is very dependent on the selection of the material and design of a product, meaning that material selection can become a complex process. It includes picking the materials that suit the design, that support a feasibly low carbon footprint target, that are not harmful during use, and that can be used again. Having materials wantonly discarded is not good for anybody. The problem engineers and designers face is having to sift through the vast arrays of information written about all these materials, because it can be difficult finding the facts that provide the necessary comparisons, and each material selection may require compromise. Drawing on industry-relevant tools, this module provide structure to these important material choices decisions, to meet sustainability-driven targets, regulations or aspirations. The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has approved 50% funding for all our already heavily funded 5-credit modules, as well as our 30-credit level 9 certificate in Innovative Materials for Industry 4.0 (in partnership with Dublin City University) 👏 Want to start the journey to your dream job? ✨️ What are you waiting for... Start right here, right now with South East Technological University Carlow. Priced at just €225 each, this offers remarkable value and a fantastic chance to advance your career prospects as you pursue your desired goals.💫 Apply to register your interest by clicking this link.✨️ https://lnkd.in/e9dT7AR9 For more information; Email: billy.house@setu.ie Phone: 059 917 540.
