Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Post

IMechE are spotlighting the profound impact of women in engineering, both historically and in the present day, at our 'Celebrating and Championing Women Engineers' event on 5 March 2024! The event marks the 100th anniversary of Verena Holmes' election as the first woman member of the IMechE, celebrating her significant contributions to the profession. But not only are we unveiling the newly commissioned portrait of Verena Holmes, we're looking to host an exhibition to champion women engineers of the past, present and future, and this is where you come in! If you're a woman in engineering and interested in taking part, please email diversity@imeche.org by 5 February with the following: 1. Full Name 2. Job Title 3. High-resolution photos, ideally featuring yourself and another in an engineering-related setting (we would like two, but one high resolution photo is equally good) 4. A brief one-liner to highlight what distinguishes you from other profiles. You may choose to answer one of the following questions: ⭐ What inspired you to become an engineer? ⭐ What role have mentors played in your career and life so far? ⭐ What are you most proud of in your engineering journey? #IMechE #Diversity #WomenInEngineering #WomenInSTEM #GirlsInEngineering #GirlsInSTEM #STEM #Inclusion #Champion #Celebration #VerenaHolmes

While I support celebrating women in engineering and this sounds like a good idea. I don’t much like the idea of women having to do extra admin and compete to be celebrated (in addition to all the other stuff we have to do) why not pick a selection at random (or with some criteria) from your members (fellows, members and those newly qualified) to get a nice representative cross section and give some members a lovely surprise invitation?!
