I recently sat down with Sebastian Arciniega and Kate Wensel to chat about how an effective technology strategy can be the saving grace for nonprofits facing issues like inefficiency, budget constraints, and new technology adoption. We chatted about how important having a well-thought-out strategy for digital transformation is for your organization, how to fit this kind of transformation into your budget, and how to get everyone in your organization on board. Essentially, I took some time to outline what technology can do for nonprofit organizations. Focusing on technology in the nonprofit industry, Kate shared some amazing insights into how challenging it can be for nonprofit organizations to adopt new technology without a clear strategy. We took some time to dive into common issues that nonprofits face in adopting new technology, unpacking the value technology can bring to a nonprofit in terms of efficiency and stakeholder management, as well as how to create a digital transformation strategy that works technology into the culture of your organization. The main takeaway? Keep in mind that any kind of software, and especially platforms like Salesforce, are similar to a garden that needs constant tending and thus requires a clear implementation and maintenance strategy. Thank you so much to iATS Payments for having me! I thoroughly enjoyed being able to share my thoughts on something I’m so passionate about and I hope everyone who attended enjoyed it too. In the spirit of collaboration and innovation, we're thrilled to spotlight one of our phenomenal partners, Algorhythm, and the incredible Sally Munemitsu who has helped our team lead the charge in improving how nonprofit organizations measure and enhance their impact. Algorhythm's work in creating measurement tools has been a game-changer for the nonprofit sector. Particularly, their Impact Capacity Assessment Tool (ICAT) has been an invaluable resource in our work here at the Nonprofit Help Center. This quantitative assessment empowers nonprofits to deeply understand and build their operational capacity in ways that reveal how they can truly improve how they do what they do. Our collaboration with Sally and her team on integrating ICAT into our Merit platform has been the innovation that we're most proud of, reflecting a shared vision of amplifying nonprofit effectiveness. And beyond the iCAT, Algorhythm also offers the Hello Insight tool, tailored specifically for youth-serving organizations. It focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of social and emotional learning (SEL) efforts, offering insights that guide program improvements and ultimately, better outcomes for youth. The dedication of Sally Munemitsu and the Algorhythm team to enhancing the capabilities of nonprofit organizations and their programs is where we find awesome alignment. Their work is paving the way for a more impactful, data-driven approach to social change. If you're not familiar with their work, be sure to check out Algorhythm's work! Together, we're not just measuring impact; we're creating it. #Partnership #Innovation #NonprofitExcellence #ImpactMeasurement #SocialChange

“Philanthropy fuels the marketplace of ideas.” It was a pleasure connecting with fellow thought leaders at the 2024 #CECPSummit this week! The theme of Purpose + Persistence truly resonated throughout the event, especially while sharing the stage with #TruistFoundation Where It Starts anchor partner Joseph Scantlebury of Living Cities. We discussed the strategies that have helped foster transparency in our partnership and the importance of co-creating for greater impact. During my time at CECP and in sharing the space with Joe, we shared three key takeaways Transparency: Corporate funders must be willing to listen, learn and adapt based on measurement, evaluation and feedback. As for grantees, when you don’t have to be hesitant about being vocal if something isn't working—that’s a strong indicator you have transparency in a relationship. Co-creating: For funders, multi-pronged partnerships are the ideal outcome to creative community design solutioning, bringing organizations together who didn’t previously know each other to share investment, ideas and ways to strengthen small businesses. We can't do it alone! Community decision making: At #Truistfoundation we recognize that all communities are not the same and face different challenges. To address these, it’s important we work with different non-profits to create unique goals and action plans for each community, leveraging the community’s existing strengths. Through these pillars, we have seen our collaborative efforts flourish and drive instrumental, meaningful impact. Thanks to CECP for having Joe and I!

Truth time - I've long had a love hate relationship with a theory of change. I've struggled to figure out what they were, how to make one, and especially how to make it simple yet compelling enough for people to engage with them. BUT... When done well, I think a theory of change can be so powerful!! Although I've struggled, I've also helped make some magic with these tools and wanted to share a little of that with my social impact friends through Brico Works. Check out the webinars I'll be hosting this month and join our email list to get access to templates and tools we've been developing. https://lnkd.in/gYDwE9yq In the meantime... Through my struggles I have found some amazing tools and organizations that have put some great work together around these concepts. If you're intrigued check these out: 1. Cosmic has a number of great posts, but my favorite is "Your Theory of Change isn't finished until your Grandma can understand it." https://lnkd.in/gsfymAwD. Thanks Eric Ressler and team for that gem. 2. MIGHTY ALLY Has a great connection to the theory of change as your "brand ambition." https://lnkd.in/gJWp6CW9. In addition they have a great course on Acumen that I took and really got a lot out of. 3. Right There If you want to see a stunningly simple and powerful example of a theory of change check out the Scotland based nonprofit Right There. I literally had "a moment" when I saw this beauty. https://lnkd.in/gFbby_Jg Thats is for now. But seriously stay tuned for more. Excited to keep sharing the magic of a theory of change this month. #nonprofits #impact #socialimpact #socialchange #impactmeasurement #theoryofchange
Let's talk 🌵 prickly issues that are pervasive in most nonprofits... 1. A lot of action --> questionable alignment to mission 2. Struggling to measure the actual impact of your work. 3. Difficulty clearly and simply communicating your impact. 4. Struggling to adapt to changes, innovate or evolve your work. While I don't have a silver bullet solution for any of these, I'd argue that we have a helpful tool in our sector that's often been deemed a tool for the data nerds and, like our fancy dinnerware, hidden away until the funders come over. It's a theory of change! I have been on the struggle bus for creating a theory of change for years, but through it all I've become a believer in this tool and its power to convey the power and potential of your work. This month we'll be going through the ins and outs of a theory of change. 1. What is a Theory of Change and How Do I Get One of Those? 2. Transforming Your Theory of Change into a Practice of Change Register for these webinars at our website and join our email list to get all the templates, tools and stories we'll be sharing. https://lnkd.in/gpJiCCT2 Then May 8th Janie Dunckley Moore will be hosting a breakout session at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits to talk about activating your theory of change. (Register here: https://lnkd.in/gBfXdqCJ) In the meantime, let's get prickly! #nonprofits #impact #impactmeasurement #theoryofchange #innovation #socialchange

What is the biggest blocker for innovation in nonprofits? 🌟 (Add your blockers in the comments.) Innovation is crucial for nonprofits to stay relevant and impactful, yet many organizations struggle to foster it. Here are some common blockers: 💰 Lack of Funding: Limited resources often make it challenging to invest in new ideas and technologies. 🙅♀️ Resistance to Change: Established routines and fear of the unknown can stifle creative thinking. 🎯 Limited Expertise: Without dedicated innovation teams, many nonprofits lack the knowledge to implement effective innovation processes. 🛑 Risk Aversion: The fear of failure can prevent nonprofits from taking the necessary risks to innovate. At the heart of these challenges lies one core issue: culture. Building a culture of innovation means encouraging experimentation, embracing failure as a learning opportunity, and continuously seeking new ways to fund and fulfill your mission. At LaunchPath, we’re here to support nonprofits in creating this culture, driving impactful change and sustainable growth. 🌍✨ #Innovation #Nonprofits #ChangeMakers #NonprofitInnovation #LaunchPath #CultureOfInnovation #ImpactfulChange #SustainableGrowth
