🚨 Call for Coral Reef Monitoring Data 🚨 🪸 The Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (#GCRMN), an operational network of International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), has announced a call for data contributions for the upcoming “Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025” report. Researchers, organisations, and reef managers worldwide are invited to share their #coralreef monitoring data to develop this critical stock-take of the status and trends of the world’s coral reefs 🌎 📊 This report will update the "Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2020", and is set to be released in 2026, enabling contributions to guide conservation and management efforts #ForCoral 🌊 Visit the dedicated webpage which includes “A Guide to Contributors”, more information on the “Data Sharing Agreement”, the type of data that the GCRMN are requesting, and the acknowledgment approach ➡️ www.gcrmn.net/2025-report. 🚨 Red Alert on Corals 🚨 IUCN SSC Coral Specialist Group Over the past five years, a hundred coral specialists worldwide 🌎 have gathered the latest data on the coral species— they unify for one sole purpose: to update the extinction risk status of the global reef-building corals. What is at stake? 🪸Preserving corals is a major issue because of their vital role in the overall functioning of the #marine environment and for the 1 billion people who depend on them for their livelihood. 🪸 For the second time (after 2008), a health check-up of the 8️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ global coral-reef building species is assessed by using the IUCN Red List rigorous methodology. During the last workshop bringing together experts from the IUCN SSC Coral Specialist Group in Singapore 🇸🇬 in October 2023, several of them agreed to explain about their scientific work, their approach and the challenges of this assessment #ForCoral Watch the video below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/e5giuxTq

🌍🌊 Exciting news from the 38th ICRI General Meeting held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 last week! It is the first time an ICRI meeting has been held in the Red Sea Region! 🙌 Over 60 participants from 36 ICRI Members, including 16 member countries, gathered to exchange knowledge and expertise and discuss future directions and current challenges in #coralreef conservation.  🪸 In addition, the meeting was provided as a hybrid option so that members could follow the #conversation #ForCoral 🌟 Key Highlights: 🌍 Welcome to Rare as ICRI’s newest member. ICRI now counts 102 members! 👥 Two new Ad Hoc Committees created, one on Youth and the other one to prepare for the IUCN World Conservation Congress 📜 Adoption of a resolution for the Red Sea region 🌐 The second ICRI Youth Panel Session 🐠 Panel discussion on the Fourth Global Bleaching Event #4GBE 💲 Session on Innovative Funding for #coralreefs Prior to the meeting, the Red Sea Coral Reef Forum highlighted the significance of the Red Sea coral reefs 🐚, emphasising their role in global coral reef conservation efforts. 🌊 Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that General Organization for Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea - shams will host the ICRI Secretariat for the next 3 years #ForCoral! 🇸🇦🎉 All information including the presentations and adopted documents can be found on the dedicated events page ➡ https://lnkd.in/eugEJRhi

🔊 New JNCC Roadmap #ForCoral The Coral Conservation in the UK Overseas Territories (C-COT) working group have released a new Roadmap, setting priorities for the next 5️⃣ - 🔟 years. 🪸The C-COT Roadmap was developed through in-depth consultations with members of the Coral Conservation in the UK Overseas Territories (C-COT) Working Group, representing the 6️⃣ Caribbean and Western Atlantic UK Overseas Territories (OTs). The Roadmap reflects key themes that emerged from extensive consultations, focusing on: 🌊 C-COT and the C-COT Secretariat 🌊 Fundraising 🌊 Representation and Networking 🌊 Coral Reef Management 🌊 Capacity Building, Training and Resource Sharing While the focus of the group in the past was predominantly Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (#SCTLD) response, due to the significance of other threats to Caribbean Western Atlantic reefs, the Roadmap outlines a shift in focus to address more general #reef concerns and monitor the overall health of UKOT reefs.
