That’s why we’re working to make ocean science education accessible to people worldwide! We’re excited to share that our educational videos are now available with closed captions in Arabic, German, French, and Spanish. With YouTube’s auto-translate tool, captions are also accessible in 80+ languages, bringing critical information about coral reefs, mangroves, and conservation to diverse audiences around the globe. 🌊 Day 10 - #ForCoral Pavilion Highlights! 🌊 Here’s a recap of today’s inspiring events, amazing insights, and powerful partnerships! 💡 🌎 💙 Lets be Nice to Coral Reefs brought together passionate voices on #coralreef protection with a spotlight on engaging civil society. Big thanks to Peter Thomson and Remi Parmentier for leading this essential dialogue! 🌎 Actioning Blue: A Caribbean 30×30 Vision for the Ocean hosted by Caribbean Biodiversity Fund was a dynamic session that united #regional leaders to discuss how Small Island Developing States (SIDS) can access the financing needed to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). With insights from: 🔹 🌐 Head of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States OECS Environmental Sustainability Division 🔹 💸 Kevin McCall, Senior Environmental Specialist at The World Bank 🔹 🤝 David Meyers, Director Conservation Finance Alliance donors.   The Kelp Forest Alliance launched the State of the World’s Kelp Forests, a first-of-its-kind #report on these invaluable ecosystems. Valued at 💲 500B annually, kelp forests are #biodiversity powerhouses, fighting climate change and supporting local #economies. But they face urgent threats from climate change and overfishing. 🤝 Global Restoration Movement: Partnerships & Synergies Panel 🌱 Francis joined #restoration leaders on "Restoration Day" to share insights and expand collaborative efforts on #coral and #coastal ecosystem restoration. So far, the #ForCoral Pavilion has welcomed over 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ visitors! 🚨 Lastly, the Emergency Special Session on #coralreefs convened by H.E. Ambassador Peter Thomson, International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) issued an urgent call to #action for world leaders to intensify efforts to increase #financial support to safeguard the functional existence of coral reefs. 🌊 While yesterday was the Ocean Day at the #KMGBF UN Biodiversity Pavilion the #ForCoral Pavilion was packed and exemplified the power of #partnership and #connectivity across ecosystems. We kicked off with a Closed Door Ocean Finance Meeting by United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and Global Fund for Coral Reefs, welcoming Peter Thomson, UN Secretary's Special Envoy for the Ocean, where leaders discussed innovative #financial solutions for marine conservation. This collaboration is essential for unlocking the funding needed to protect the ocean. 💡💰 The session by IUCN on Seascapes of the Future focused on Nature-Based Solutions, the Blue Economy, and the Great Blue Wall, highlighting how interconnected efforts can create #sustainable marine environments. 🌊🌍 Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas and BNP Paribas together with Global Fund for Coral Reefs, Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance and other partners launched the first impact loan facility for marine conservation, a significant step towards #funding impactful projects that benefit both ecosystems and local communities. 🌱🔗 Finally, discussions on Advancing Marine Conservation Breakthroughs led by High-Level Climate Champions emphasised the need to #connect global #action for #coralreefs #mangroves #kelp and ultimately the ocean. 🌐🌿 These events remind us that #collaboration is key to driving meaningful change. Together, we can create a sustainable future where these fragile ecosystems thrive for generations to come! 🪸 Day 4 has come to close at the COP16 Colombia #ForCoral Pavilion 🙌 In the face of the global biodiversity crisis, we are at a critical juncture where our response can shape the future of our planet. And this can take a significant toll on us. Therefore, we started the day with a mindfulness workshop focusing on how to handle eco-anxiety and grief, hosted by Penn State University and Arizona State University 🐠 Wildlife Conservation Society then took over the pavilion to demonstrate how to safeguard #climateresilient coral reefs where we welcomed valuable case studies and presentations from the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, Government of the Philippines 🇵🇭 (Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Biodiversity Management Bureau), Government of Mozambique 🇲🇿 (Ministry of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries), Government of Fiji 🇫🇯 (Ministry of Environment and Climate Change), and Bloomberg Philanthropies 🪸 Building on the same theme, Environmental Defense Fund and Wildlife Conservation Society showcased the rich and diverse coral reef systems of Cuba 🇨🇺highlighting efforts to study and protect the country’s coral reefs, and the importance of this work to global coral reef conservation 🌎 And to conclude the day, linking to the Pavilion’s first session, International Coral Reef Society presented how we can stay positive against the backdrop of the Fourth Global Bleaching Event #4GBE. 🌊✨ Celebrating Colombia Day at the #ForCoral Pavilion - A Tribute to Culture and Conservation! 🇨🇴 Today, we gathered COP16 Colombia for a celebration around the rich heritage of Colombia and the vital role #coralreefs play in the health of the Ocean 🌊 The #ForCoral Pavilion has been a vibrant space all day, showcasing the incredible diversity of marine ecosystems and the passionate individuals dedicated to their preservation. We’ve heard about achieving 30x30 in Colombia, to over 30 years of research and how to face new challenges with coral bleaching 🌎 As Colombia Day 🇨🇴 came to a close, we welcomed a screening of the documentary ‘Saving Atlantis’ – an inspiring call for action that provides emotive accounts from those connected to coral reefs – followed by a celebration for conservation from Jalimer Caraballo Ramírez, a local Colombian Champeta singer 🎶 “We’re honoured to have Saving Atlantis screen at CBD COP16, and are thankful to ICRI for hosting us at the #ForCoral Pavilion.
